Every single cliche that tolkein and the writers of old could work up. Also, the wasn't characterization at all.
I really can't tell you much, as I only got three chapters in before getting rid of it. But then, that in itself is good insight.
i thought it was reasonable. Not the best but certainly not the worst. but I only got the first book....
