On a total side-note... This is quite possibly the best grand opening of any sub-forum since the RPG room.

I'm just wondering why the only guy posting in this new section is straight. Am I the exception to some unwritten rule that straight guys just don't bother with erotica?

Edited - just noticed Cog contributed too...

I think other straight guys have posted... On the poem one maybe? Either way.... Not posting doesn't mean they're not reading, right?

Maybe writing something about voyeurism will inspire them to post. ;)

LOL, I think it's more a matter of @erebh only really noticing the women. ;)

So did Cog, and possibly others. I'm sorry, I should have really went through the list in my attempt to make a point.

I love that guilty-not sorry smiley. lol.

But, isn't there some sort of something out there that says men are visual beasts, whereas women are senses related? That's why a guy can get ready just by seeing some revealing clothing, whereas women like to be wined and dined and romanced?

Of course, these are completely stereotypical, but it's what I remember from my psychology class long, long ago.

    Me too!

hmmm what does that say about me? :) My wife often says I'd have made a great gay guy because I read, and like musicals, and cry at films like The Champ and The Notebook - everytime!

Musicals and films are visual. Besides that, they're more visual but not ALL visual.

The general belief in that school of thought is that men are more spatially related in their visual perception. The idea being that as the hunters, distance, triangulation and a general high sense of spatial relation is inherent in men. The other side of that coin is that women, as the gatherers, have a heightened sense of smell and taste (compared to men) and that their thought processes are more abstracted to be better adapted to knowledges outside of the here and now, to better process ideas like when certain fruit will be ripe, where to find the best tubers, what other clues in the landscape lead to knowing where good food is to be found etc.

Thanks, Wreybies. I know that to not be completely true, as I'm quite visual as well. I mean, who can't help but check out a nice ass??

Agreed! :) I think there might be a modicum of validity to the school of thought, but I think the difference is minimal and too hard to separate nature v. nurture. Do we perceive men to be more spatially oriented because it's innate in them, or do culturally imposed rules of behavior push them into tasks that are spatially related, thus they practice and hone a high sense of spatial relation? Do women have a better sense of taste and smell because they are born that way, or do gender rolls push them into the kitchen where these skills are important, thus they develop and hone a keen palate and sense of smell?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
