    Do as you please, but planetary gravity augmentation and genetic Martians are off the table for hard sci-fi in that timetable. Given that the trip to Mars is typically one-way and the radiation is likely to result in a high instance of medical problems even the most well-prepared trips are going to present major challenges that simply result in either artificial genetic evolution or the more likely cyborgisation of the populace to the hostile environment. You could have a field day with the tech and the politics, but when you get down to basics the easiest option would be a cult of extremists who go to Mars to escape whatever persecution of the era and just happen to bring along a host of mutations from the journey which results in some form of albinism or something.
