Is there a better term for when someone smiles while also looking sad? Rather than just say he smiled sadly.
In a single word? That's tricky, hmmm, nothing in my lexicon is putting its hand up. Err...a resigned smile, a faux-smile, a burdened grin, his smile; only a veneer on his sadness...
Not necessarily in one word. It is frustrating because I think I know what I want to say, but I can't put it into words!
I guess I am looking for more along the lines of "half-hearted smile" the smile is genuine, but he cannot fully express it because his sadness (or regret) is greater.
No idea what that means. But I think I just answered my own questions. I will go with half-heartedly. thanks for jogging my memory guys
