    Smoky Days of June
    By fighter25

    For nine long months
    the nights grow longer
during the smoky days of June.

The cords of scarlet and blue
    nurture the innocents of white,
    giving life like the Nile.

From the host to the leech,
    it suckles nectar from the
tight lipped tulip of May Days.

    Secure in a honey-combed hexagon
    it pulses, moves, and kicks
with the beat of the heart.

    Mother knows not.
    Child knows not.
    World knows not.

    Only the cord and God
    knows of what this
    fetus is to become.

    Here the cord connects,
flowing in and out of valleys
    like the River of Youth:

I voted for this one. It immediately stood out above the rest, though I wasn't sure it was as true to the given theme. Then I thought, "**** it, it's good," and clicked on it.

Ha! :p Thanks Forkfoot. After writing it I kind of felt the same way as you did. I wanted the message to be: No matter what you are, your parents are usually the only people who will look past everything the world has defined you as, and they will love you as they did when you where in the fetus-innocent and uninfluenced. But I'm not sure if that came through. If I'm writing a poem and it just feels right that I stop at a certain point, I do. I didn't want to keep adding because I'd feel as if I wasn't doing the poem justice.

Although I also enjoyed the other submitted poems, this one was so unique that it had my vote upon the last line I read. Congratulations!
