    Finding proper time to write

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Daemon Wolf, Aug 9, 2015.

I was just curious when everybody finds the proper time to write and how you set aside time to writing your book because I am very bad at this. I am either writing non-stop all day or I am not writing at all (aside from maybe 1-2 sentences).

Splitting my time right now between pitching one novel and researching the next one. Having retired helps, but other things, what civilians call the "real world", still does interfere at times. We do what we can.

Isn't the answer going to be heavily dependent on a person's career? Many of these people write professionally. Some have a full-time or part-time job and write on the side. Some are students. Some are retired. Me -I have little kids at home which is a 24/7 job. I think it's possible for everyone to find time to write, but obviously some A LOT more than others.

I should also add that I'm currently brooding over my own extreme lack of time. :meh:

you make time to write, the same way you make time for the gym.

I spend a lot of time "thinking" so that when I do write I can make the best use of my time.

I'm a software engineer, so for me finding time isn't as much of a problem as finding mental clarity... By the end of the day or week, I can barely think! Add to it that work often spills over into evenings and weekends, and it's no wonder I'm making so little progress.

But to answer your question, I spend most of my time writing on lunch breaks or Saturdays... But I usually get the most writing done when I take a random Wednesday off work.
