    Finding that idea...again

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Carthonn, Jul 26, 2014.

Have you ever had a great idea, forget to write it down and then the next day remember you had a great idea? My problem is I have no idea what it was about. All I know is that I believed the story would be easy to write. Isn't that sick?

How do you get those ideas back? Right now I'm pacing with no TV and no music. Complete silence.

Happens to me sometimes. I think, "This idea is so great I can't possibly forget it!" and then I forget it!

Story of my life! :D It's like this...

Me: I'll remember this for later when I write it down, no sweat.

    Five Minutes Later

Me: Dang it, I forgot. :(

Exactly. I have notebooks everywhere too. I'm trying to think of what I was doing or where I could have been where I didn't have a notebook to write it down. I was probably driving...

It happens. But don't fret. You'll have new ideas. Creative thinkers always do. ;)

Agreed. You never know - that new idea might be the one you forgot, you just won't realise it... ;)

Where were you when i struck? what were you listening to or watching. you wont believe what influences us when we least expect it,. I know it might be hard but stick yourself in the same environment or try to remember it and the inspiration my flow back. Dont force it. it's like the old trick, imagine a friends voice and you will see that the more you focus the less you actually hear them in your head but teh less you concentrate the more it sounds right. Weird IKR.

I did eventually get it back. I was actually in NYC when it hit me again. I was deciding about going to the Museum of Modern Art since it was relatively close to where I was meeting some of my friends. I didn't end up going because like a moron I went on the wrong subway. That's when I realized I wanted to write a story about an student artist. What a relief.

When I originally thought of the idea I think I was watching the movie Lust for Life (Movie about Vincent Van Gogh's life). Weird how the mind works.

It happens...I usually try to put myself BACK into that frame...what website I was browsing, food I was eating, TV show watching, music listening, person talking...

It sometimes slips, and gone forever...but don't regret that.

Or, write a story about wanting to write the story that slipped away.
