    Hey

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Anthro, Mar 9, 2008.

Hey, y'all. I'm new here obviously (I'm also a master at stating the apparent ).

So about me: I'm a born and bred southern girl who is currently living in Ohio (not on my choice, trust me), but I'm moving back down South next year. I'm currently a high school student, and I'm planing on majoring in anthropology (preferably forensic but physical only will work as well).

About my writing: I first remember writing at the age of seven, but I've found stories that date back to when I was five, so I guess I was writing then too.

I've had about a dozen poems published in the USA and a couple in the UK. However, I'm more interested in writing novellas (or novels, depending how the storyline evolves). I had one offer on a manuscript I was working on, but it didn't work out (the editor and I didn't get along at all).

I enjoy writing horror and mysteries/thrillers; in reality, I'm probably better at writing mysteries/thrillers (in fact, I know I am), but I enjoy the variety and freedom that horror provides.

At the moment, I'm working on a story that's primarily told in first person point of view from a serial killer. It's the kind of thing I'm good at; I did a short story once on the same general lines and found that the readers were evenly split between creeped out and happy with it. I like both those reactions. ;)

I haven't been to an active writing forum in awhile (the one I went to previously sort of died out; it was a transfer that never rooted), so I'm looking forward to being around here.

    So, hey.

Hello Anthro, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

We'll do what we can ti live up to your expectations. Of course, regardlwss of the website, the real benefits draw from the effort you invest. The best parts of a forum are a rich source of fresh ideas, and the incentive not to let it slide when other people know you have something in the works.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
