Leon looked at Rae for a second trying to read his face before he felt the sudden change in the atmosphere.

"The Darkness...RUN!!", Rae called as he began to dash back the way they came.

Leon followed and so did the Manticore. However, though, the fierce beast stopped before it even began as it let out a loud roar as if in agony. Leon took a glimps back and saw the Manticore's body turn to sand as the statue behind it was quickly consumed in darkness.

Leon shivered as he looked forward and tried not to think of how his brother Lucius somehow became a Manticore. He was too concerned about this darkness than his own personal demons.

"The hell is that Rae'Non?!!", Leon called after him.

Rae ran alongside Leon, pushing himself as fast as he could. The Manticore let out a final, painful roar behind them before bursting into sand as the statue simply ceased to be. It was consumed by what could only be described as a tidal wave of black...nothing.

"The hell is that Rae'Non?!!", Leon called after him.

"I think its the Darkness...trying to stop us. Just keep going!"

The Darkness was gaining on them rapidly, at that rate, none of them would escape.

"Leon...make sure everyone lives. You have to get the Heart...you have to," Rae shouted at him, slackening his pace.

"What the hell are you doing?!"

    "JUST GO!"

Rae slid to a stop and turned to face the thing that loomed up behind them. Sword in hand, he charged at it. He thought he could hear Leon scream at him, but he couldn't make out the words. The Darkness reared up before him and a terror overtook him. He began to shake uncontrollably. This was truly a force that could drive men mad.

Rae took a deep breath as the Darkness crashed down around him. He was caught up in the swirling currents and lifted high into the air. His sword exploded with light as he hacked away at the stuff, but to no avail. It slowed only momentarily before slamming Rae hard down onto the stone floor. There was horrific sound of his bones cracked and a little blood escaped his mouth. His sword flew from his hand and skidded to a halt about 20 feet from the Darkness and himself.

He could see his companions calling out to him as he was lifted up into the air once more. This time the Darkness slammed him into one of the high walls, causing Rae to cry out in pain. He tried to tell them all to run, but he found that he could no longer do anything but weep in pain. Hot blood ran down his forehead as the creature slammed him into the floor once more. The stones began to shift and crack.

The tentacles lifted him into the air and began to twist his body in odd and unnatural angles. Bones shattered. Blood ran freely. Then the stone floor gave way and both the creature and what was left of Rae fell away into the vast expanse of emptiness below the city.

Leon stood there in the dark hallway of the dungeon path before the empty abyss that was once the floor behind him, suddenly dropping to his knees seemingly shocked and horrified at the event that had just occured.

    Rae'Non....gone?

It couldn't be. The dragon warrior, the last of his people, a man who knew no greed or evil of any sorts in his heart, was gone. A true warrior had fallen, and Leon kneeled there....still alive.

Leon lifted his head and stared at the ceiling. He couldn't believe it. It was too much. How come Rae had to die? Why couldn't he have died instead? He wasn't even supposed to be here. He wasn't supposed to be alive. He didn't deserve it. He didn't.

Tears began streaming down the sides of Leon's face. He did not cry, but the tears came down. He was still in shock. He did not think. He did not move. He barely even breathed.

He just knelt there in despair at the loss of a good friend, a true hero.
