So, I was thinking about writing a story of a Dark, Warlike Dystopian (multiplanet) future (not Warhammer 40k dark, but still pretty dark) where society and goverment is fuedal in most cases, and although the central goverments are very strong in their own right, they need the support of the great houses under them to work, not to mention the the great and powerful church millitent. well, as the story opens, a large war is on the horizan, and one of the factions, the Erdan Empire, a German inspired state, desperate to acquire an edge in the coming war, go back to the ruin of earth (its a radiated rock now) to see if they can find anything of worth in their ancestreal homeland. They Unwittingly Start a chain of events that will awaken the ancient Gods of Humanity from their long sleep. So basically, you've got mythology waking up, a galaxy sized war, and all sorts of great plot to handle. is it stupid? if not, any advice on how to implement it?
First off, everyone is going to tell you the same thing -- The idea doesn't mean a damn thing. All that matters is how you write it. (Which is true and sometimes a hard concept to really grasp) Second of all, Implement it yourself. You're the writer, man. That's half the fun.
Think of it this way (and I think there's a quote out there that basically says the same thing.) All stories and genres have already been written. It's not the idea that you have, because people will always liken it to some other idea. It's your flavor on the already established idea. Make it interesting that way. In other words, people don't read for a completely new idea. They read it to hear how you tell it.
There is a simple rule when it comes to writing fiction, non-fiction, novels, short stories, poetry, prose, whatever and it is: "Writers write ... right?" Until you produce words, lines, paragraphs and chapters you are just a wannabee writer. Write, write, write and don't concern yourself with whether or not what you write is "stupid" or not, because nobody is ever gonna know if you can write until you write ... right?
