You are a writer, but are you anything else?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by M9A8E6S4TO, May 28, 2009.

Do you paint, draw, or maybe play an instrument? Tell us about it, and if you can, show us!

I color pencil and compose. You can see some of my drawings here...

Interesting drawings. Would make pretty cool album art.

Other than a writer, I am also a musician. I play guitar, sax, and sing. I also enjoy fencing, but haven't really done it in a while.
Another of my side hobbies is making fan missions for an old PC game, Thief for the still quite alive and kicking Thief community.

I used to play piano and viola allll the time. Haven't for a while, but I really want to get back into it.

I also scrapbook on the computer. I can't do it with paper, scissors, and glue like normal people, so my mom got me a computer program that does it for me. :) It's fun!

I draw and do comic art. I mostly use a range of graphite pencils, brush pens, copic markers, and gradiented drawing pens. I've dabbled in colouring on computer, but I'm poor at it. I'm Okay, but not that great.

Oh, and I'm a computer video game nerd, a film buff, and I enjoy reading comic books/graphic novels.

I'm an X-Files and Buffy the vampire slayer fan, and quite obsessive about them too.

Aswell as that I love music bars, live bands, concerts, and listening to music through very big headphones. Mostly Heavy metal and classic rock.

I cook and bake alot aswell when I can, it's one of my favourite things to do with my boyfriend. I love experimenting and I feel really accomplished when I've made a cake or a complicated meal. Not that it happens alot, but it happens.

I'm a full time girlfriend to Matt! - I love going out and spending time with him, and of course staying in and doing the fun stuff that comes free.

I love to read and expand my book collection.

I love to walk my beloved doggy Pebbles and bath her.

I love dressing up in the punk/goth/rockabilly/psychobilly fashion, I love bold rockabilly-style makeup (Red lipstick and black eyeliner), tattoo's and peircings, although almost all of my peircings have grown out/ gone wrong, and I've no tattoos of my own.

over all i'm quite the geek.

Oh, and I love playing SNES games and RPG's.

I paint. My favorite subject is trees. Once a year, I usually submit a couple paintings to the patron art show at my favorite local coffee house. But everything else I paint, I give to my mom.

I swing dance. Not as much as I'd like to. But there's almost nothing that makes me happier. I'm not bad at it, but I would be better if I went more often.

I sing. I've done a bit of recording with my boyfriend, but if I want to go further, I'll have to either learn an instrument, or find someone else to work with. We have very different ideas of the music we want to make.

I cook. I'm a cheapskate with everything, except when it comes to food. I will break the bank to make a quality meal. And I love experimenting and making things I've never tried before. I thought about going to culinary school, but I think I wouldn't like it as much if it became a job.

I'm an amateur astronomer. I love looking at the stars, and I find this particular field of science so interesting. If I have the time and money one day, I would love to go back and get a degree in astronomy. There are tons of amateurs, but astronomy is actually the smallest scientific profession.

i'm a writing mentor for writers of all breeds in all parts of the world [via email] and i founded/run a free books and donation center for the very needy islanders [in half of my donated duplex home]...

plus, i provide a free writing service for whatever anyone here needs written, since no one on the island has very good english, even though it's their main language [became a sort of 'pidgin' english, thanks to the influence of their native chamorro and of all the nations that 'conquered' them during the past few centuries--the spanish, germans, japanese, americans]...

and i do most of the writing for the only health facility we have here, a poorly-run clinic that i'm constantly writing up assessments/reports on, in hopes of getting it upgraded to at least second-world country status...

so, i don't really do much of anything, other than writing-related stuff...

I'm the president of a small country called Dantonia. :D

I'm also an actor, a skiier and a big brother. (Yay! :))

Skiing is my second most favourite feeling in the world. Being on the top of something so enormous as a MOUNTAIN, and almost literally clinging on for dear life while I hurtle down it, barely in control (I mean yes, I can turn, and stop myself, but if you're travelling at 60mph towards a cliff, it won't help that much) is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I feel alive.

The only thing that I enjoy more than skiing? Well, being on stage, obviously. :D

I hear you, man. It's like a drug. Especially if you're palying music and people that you don't even know are rocking out and singing your lyrics back at you. That is such a weird feeling.

I do a fair amount of photography, and occasionally oil painting. Years ago, I did my own photographic darkroom work, color and black and white, but now I have gone fully digital. I used to play tenor sax somewhat, but haven't in quite a while. Cooking is one of my passions, particularly breads, barbeque, and spicy foods, and I have also made my own beer and wine. I build plastic models, mostly spacecraft, and used to build solid fueled model rockets, but it's hard to find large enough spaces to launch from in Massachusetts. I used to do a lot of hobby electronics, but haven't done that in years. I still read and watch a lot of science fiction, and other genres to a lesser degree. I enjoy singing karaoke, but the places I used to hang out don't have karaoke night anymore.

Hmmm. Well, when I'm not writing creatively, I'm managing the youth division of the state newspaper, and when I'm not doing that, I'm page designing for my school paper. I guess words are kind of my thing. ;)

I play(ed) piano and guitar before they got sold; I was never any good anyways though --you see, tiny girl has tiny hands; after I learned the basics, my body held me back. :p
I try very hard to stay active, and I do that via horseback riding (in fact, I just got back from a lesson, and tiny girls are to an advantage during steeplechase and racing), running, weight lifting, and practicing martial arts from time to time.
I make my own clothes. Most of the things in my closet, if not made completely on my own, have at least been altered to some degree via chopping here, snipping there, or just dunking it in a dye and changing the colour completely. :)

    Uh, what else.
I help little kids in inner city schools (which are really rundown and have a high drop out rate) learn to read and stay in school. :)

    I guess that's about it.

Notice how Mercy's hobbies all involve helping others or being productive,

where as mine are all self indulgent and usually involve sitting on my bum helping nobody. LOL.

    *halo*
Nah, I'm kidding. I have my self-indulgent activities too!

Computing, as I am doing now, and eating pure chocolate is one of my favourites. :D
Besides, piano/guitar, sewing, writing creatively, and exercising isnt really helping anyone.

I am a hairdresser, but I consider myself retired, at the ripe old age of 26. haha
I play the flute very well, and I can play most any instrument by ear.
I love love love to cook, I find it relaxing, now that I have aquired a small set of cooking skills. But boy, when we first got married, there were some disasters. Lets just say macaroni and cheese made with sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated milk is not pleasant. How was I supposed to know a difference?
I paint, and love to do crafty things.

Apart from writing I am a full-time mother, which I find is the most demanding job I have ever had in my life.

3 days a week I take my daughter to playgroup for social interaction and for the arts and crafts she is able to do there.
I spend up to 2 hours a day at the school with my son.
I help my parents out around there house when ever they require help as my mother has a terminal illness and my father has just had a shoulder operation and he also has a broken disk in his back.

I started doing a TA course last year, just to get back in the swing of studying before I went on and tried to become an English Teacher. But I couldn't put Amity into daycare because of her health issues and I didn't have a reliable babysitter, so I finished paying off the course and dropped out. Hopfully next year I can get back into studying. I really miss it!

I don't have a very interesting life, and don't really have time for anything these days. I tend to try and find time to write, but I can't write on paper without my wrist causing me severe pain, and I have limited computer time now, so I don't really write much anymore.
I used to horse ride, but gave it away when I had Mase as all my money was going on him, taking him to a fro appopintments in the city with specialists.

I like History, and useless trivia :p.

I like Computers particularly programing. I'm contemplating making a library of algorithms that I can use in the future. My last class was all about them, and a lot of them could be useful to me in the future. Program my own versions of them all and I can just copy and paste them into my larger programs in the future :p.

I'm also a Video Game fanatic.

I also like studying the Bible. Currently trying to figure out if Abaddon (Angel of the Abyss/The Fifth Trumpet of Revelation) is good or evil.

I draw, paint, and play guitar. I also write songs for myself to sing. Some of them are good, some of them are blah. I know this artist who's like, a real artist and he told me I have a lot of talent, which is pretty encouraging. I'm a big sister, and I'm a bit of a manga fangirl. Only about certain manga, though, like Bleach and Absolute Boyfriend. I also like debating with people. I guess I'm just naturally argumentative. Oh, and I have a great memory for lines from movies and plays. I can practically recite Monty Python and the Holy Grail from memory. I've entertained notions of being an actor. It feels really cool when you are on stage and people are seeing you for someone else.

Man, I feel so lazy and unacomplished next to all these amazing talents...

I would like to steal what Ashleigh said about being a full-time girlfriend and add that to my pathetically tiny list. I'm definitely a full-time fiance. :)

Wow. Lots of very talented people on here. :-D I like to doodle pictures of my characters, usually with just plain pencil and paper. I'm not very good at it, but it's fun. I love Japanese culture, watch anime & listen to a lot of J-pop. I'm trying to learn the lyrics to all my favorite songs right now.

I make prom dresses--not that I have much free time. It's difficult for 13-14 yr olds to find evening dresses to fit here (not the same teen-orientated culture). I worked for one of the world's biggest costumiers in London when I left school and through my student years. Best years of my life, I wish I'd stayed working there and not bothered about getting a degree.
