Hello doesn't sound that original, does it?

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Komposten, Oct 18, 2012.

Oh well, I suppose "Hello" will do.

So, hello to all of you out there, wherever you are!

I'm a young swede from Sweden who loves both to read and write. Writing caught my eye as early as Primary School, and it was in Secondary School that I finally recognized the wonders of the English language.
Nowadays I almost exclusively read novels in English, even though my prime language still is Swedish.

My personal aims of using this site is to become a better writer as well as finding out what magic all you others can conjure!

Ps. What a brilliant thought it was to connect this account to Facebook! Well, at least until I found out that I couldn't change my username... :p So I guess I'll have to stick with this one now, but for those who want to, you can call me by Komposten.

Hey welcome to the group Jakob! It's cool how many people on this site know two languages, I'm jealous!

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Jakob!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

P.S. If you want to change your username, you should PM Daniel. He's the only one with the required privileges to make the change.

Maybe I should keep it to myself, then, that I'm studying Spanish as well? :D

We'll see if I get around to that, though I suppose it would be best to change it before I'm too nested in this Forum.

And, of course, thanks to both of you!

I better ask before this thread goes away into the shadows.

    1. Is there any restrictions on me regarding reviewing things in the Writing Workshop, or can I just launch myself straight into the heap of stories?
    2. What is the general point of view on double- (or multi-) posting?

    1. Just dive in - just make sure the critique isn't something too easy - fix this comma
and your done, vague - it was boring -and not pin pointing what made it boring, or a simple opinion -
you can say it was good but don't leave it at that as it won't be considered a critique.

    2. not sure what you mean by double posting? if you mean posting the same question or a
story section in different I'm pretty sure that's a no-no.

    1. Ok, I sure will. Also, I happen to have already read the post about Constructive Critique (no offense), :D.

    2. Double-posting (or tripple-posting, etc.) generally refers to the posting of several posts in a row by the same user, without any other posts to break the streak. This is quite often disliked on forums as it is generally possible to edit your posts. I've seen other forums where double-posting and "worse" easily could start flame-wars.
