    Guys, hi!

I'm Nina, though you're all probably going to call me Noddy.
Fifteen and a masked vigilante in Sydney, Australia. =]
    Not quite...

I've been writing "novels" since I was nine, though they were more like paragraphs. Hehe. Now, however, I'm happy to say that I'm writing substantial pieces. That said, I'm only finishing for the first time ever. Cough. Uh, yeah. I write, I just don't...persevere all too often. Hopefully that'll change in the near future though. So, on a writing level, I do it whenever I can, and even when I can't. Can you say yearly studying? I've tried my hand at the whole reality chick-lit genre, didn't like it. I have since discovered that I enjoy myself far more with the fantasy themes. Not exactly dungeons and dragons, but unexplained powers, mythological creatures, etc. Themes where I have complete and utter control over reality.

On a reading level, I've been described as ridiculously advanced by my English teachers. (I have two). ;) I can't stand YA fiction, there's just something so offensively mundane about it all. Ugh. Lately, I've been reading the Popular Penguins. I bought Frankenstein, War of the Worlds and the Chrysalids on a Dymocks gift card. Before that, I was really into crime novels, particularly Kathy Reichs. If I had to choose, I'd be anti-Twilight. I'm a Potter fan at heart. My favourite books are probably: Oscar Wilde's the Picture of Dorian Gray, J.K Rowling's Prisoner of Azkaban, Robert Louis Stevenson's the Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and, uh, maybe Catherine Jink's Evil Genius.

Beyond the world of words, I'm a devoted football striker, or rather, soccer striker. I'm an advanced art student, a painter, graphic artist and sketch illustrator, really. I front a band, alternative, punk-pop, rock sort of a feel. I've got a passion for the criminal psyche and I probably know more about serial killers than the entire history department at my school. Yew. Applaud my creepiness. Hehe. I watch a lot of movies, I suppose.

But uh, yeah. That's me on paper.

    I...like you already. >:-D

Haha, I never thought I'd meet someone who knew a lot about serial killers too. They freak the crap out of me, yet at the same time fascinate me. Kinda weird, huh? o_o

But anyways, welcome to the forum. C: I just joined yesterday, so I'm still basically a noob...but...oh well. No one ever said noobs couldn't welcome other noobs.

...er, actually...I dunno. Maybe they did.

    - but screw the rules I'm welcoming you anyways. 8D

    WELCOME.

    I...concur with you :K:

Also, hell yeah, another sydney-sider! You can help me convince all the american people that we ride kangaroos to school!

"Themes where I have complete and utter control over reality." - That's one of my views on fantasy and sci fi; we all write it because deep down we're sociopaths/have god complexes. But it doesn't stop me from writing it.

I used to write paragraphs when I was nine. My first ever work of fiction was about a cybernetic rat whose father, Ferris, was trying to kill him in the second sentence in a drain.

There. A lengthy response to a lengthy hello. Welcome to the club, man.

Hello Nina, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Aw, thanks.
I know right? They're strangely intriguing.
