    Introducing...

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Seanachie, Oct 9, 2007.

...myself, Seanachie, teller of tales, incompetent bard, who strives for perfection. My search has led me to this place where I hope to continue my apprenticeship as a writer. With your kind assistance, I hope to find both the inspiration I crave and the guidance I need. Anon.

Thank you, kind people. I suspect I should investigate The Lounge area, and also begin reading some posts. I appreciate the necessity of critiquing, and will hopefully be able to offer a crumb or two of assistance.

I should think not. I am but a wanderer looking for like-minded souls with whom to share a story or two. But I thank you for the welcome.

Hello Seanachie, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Hola!

Welcome to the forums; I look forward to both reading your works and seeing your reviews of others'! Be sure to look around, there's pretty much everything here.

Quick question - do you speak in such a formal tone too, or just write? Because it's awesome. :p

    Cheers,
    Scavenger

A group is only as intelligent as its members. Seanachie, Irish Galic for "Storyteller." Post a few stories or poems. This is "so far that I have seen" one of the "better" more "intelligent" and "more active" writing message boards I've found. There seem to be more people here that know their stuff, and several very good writers to inspire others.

Thank you, Cogito. I have been reading the 'stickies' to see whether this forum differs greatly from others I frequent. I suspect the 'critique more than you post your own work' is the custom; it is certainly one I have no difficulty in obliging. I tend to refrain from profanities on public forums, and opt to ignore if I cannot offer constructive criticism, so I should manage to keep my nose clean.

Scavenger, my 'voice' tends to vary with my moods, in speech, stories and general posting. But I am an old-fashioned person with foolish old-fashioned notions.

Funny Bunny, seanachie is also used in Scotland (where my heart dwells). How lovely that you recognised it, though. I fear I have nothing to offer yet (i have stories, but they are committed elsewhere), but then I shall begin my apprenticeship by reading and commenting on the work of others. In time I may have something to show.

Thank you, all, for the warm welcome.
