    Eight games, eight gold!

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Cogito, Aug 17, 2008.

I' not a huge sports fan, and not even a huge Olympics fan, But I had to watch to see if this happened, and it did.

Michael Phelps entered eight Olympic events, took the gold in all eight.

Of course, not every event was an individual effort. The final gold was a 4 person relay event, and one of the earlier events was also a relay. Still, every person had to excel to make it happen. But to enter eight events, and to take no less than gold in all eight!

That is nothing short of extraordinary.

Number seven was thrilling . . . won by .01 of a second and survived a protest against his win.

So, he's the greatest athlete ever? I liked how, in the US, they already had commericials with his face in them when he only had five.

Five gold medals is still f***ing impressive. Good for Phelps for getting 8. What an athlete.

You know that box next to the Wendy's?
It was pretty intense watching that relay.

I wonder how many golds Phelps will bring home next Olympics?

It's quite staggering, that if you put him in the medal table, as a country, he'd be sixth...

He lives in Maryland, and so do I. He actually lives only about like 20 minutes from where I live.

I think two of his gold were lucky, the .10 seconds one and the relay where Jason Lezak beat the french by a mere margin.
