    Daily Writing Exercises

Discussion in 'Word games' started by Sphi, Apr 29, 2009.

Does anybody here have anything like a writing journal where you do daily writing exercises? Like prompts or anything? I would like to start writing daily and was wondering if anybody knows of any good writing exercises and prompts, or websites where I could find some. Thanks. :)

I have so many stories waiting to be written that I spend all my writing time trying to write those.

If you don't have outlines ready to be written, then you could go to an art site like deviantart and search for a cool painting, then write based on that.

or just watch an hour of cnn every day, or pick up a newspaper... that'll give you plenty to write about!

I found this one a couple weeks back. I haven't done any of them yet (I'm too lazy) but they look pretty helpful, you may want to give them a try. :)

I have a ton of other writing sites bookmarked as well. PM if you're interested in find a few more.

An amazing site that I try to go to every day. It has a "Daily Inspiration" every day: a collection of visual pieces that are either submitted or the webmaster finds online. It's not writing, but each time, at least one piece stimulates my imagination, and I jot down ideas of what kind of story I could write to accompany the piece. I don't always flesh the ideas out, but they get my mind churning.

I have a perfect-bound black A5 journal that I write in once a day. or occasionally skimp on if I'm editing and typing up an existing piece. Sometimes I get inspiration from dreams or the like, sometimes from art or music (music, mostly), and the rest of the time I write a random word then write a page or so based on that word. So I always have an inspiration there ready to call up.

If you want truly interesting stories check out the NY Post. An example of a headline:

"Headless man found in topless bar."

    Seriously, classic.

Maybe it would be a good idea to make a thread full of writing prompts? An idea, nothing more.
