Have you ever rented a place\flat\house to write?

Have you ever rented a house for just 3 months (or longer), mostly for writing?

No. I live alone so I've never had to.

I've done it twice, but those were combined writing/research trips, not simply writing.

I checked into a hotel for that purpose... and emerged three months later. Seriously, three months in a hotel room and never came out. Thank goodness for delivery.

Thanks everyone for the reply. If I can ask, for those who did, was it helpful?

Also, a very dumb question (googled it, but didn't fully understand), what is a writing retreat? Does it necessarily includes a workshop or it's just someone going off for a while to write?

I've always thought of a retreat as being a place/event where a bunch of writers get together for an extended period of time to write and discuss one another's work.
