Escape from the Pink and Fluffy

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by RowenaFW, Apr 7, 2012.

    *Waves enthusiastically* HELLO!

Forums are addictive, aren't they? You can spend a lot of your life on them, learn from them, mess around on them, and make friends on them.

I used to write on forums when I was about 17. I went to university, busied myself with other things and unplugged from the forum world. Now I'm getting married to a man who spends a lot of his time on forums and blogs, and I've joined a wedding forum and started my own blog. But we're getting married soon, I'm not naturally interested in shades of ivory, and I wanted to join a community that was a bit more... stimulating.

So we'll see how this goes.

At the risk of sounding like my CV...

I write novels. I have been doing so since before I could actually write. I haven't published any (an agent is sitting on one, but I'm currently ignoring her and working at a redraft of another), but I want to. I sometimes write poetry. I'm not sure if I have any aspirations for that. I used to be a member and organiser of the Inklings creative writing group in Oxford, but now live in Birmingham. After the wedding, we were thinking about setting up another group, maybe.

When I write, I live and breathe writing. I become very obsessed and my facebook friends complain about my status updates. I also have downtime when I'm distracted by other things, like getting a degree or planning a wedding. I really want to finish my mamoth rewrite, but my plot and characters are all extremely complicated, so the process is not particularly linear.

*Waves enthusiastically* Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your coming wedding. Hope your marriage is as good as mine has been for the last forty plus years. Writing groups can be helpful in many ways. Hope you find your efforts here rewarding. I suggest you take some time and read the rules if you haven't already. Again Welcome.

Hello and welcome! Looks like you're getting along fine on here: forty-one posts already? That has to be some sort of record. :) Good luck your wedding and hobbies! I'll be looking for you on the WF.

Congratulations on your marriage! I was married last October, and found I have the same need for something "non-wedding themed". I hope you find it here!

    Welcome to Writing Forums, RowenaFW!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself and Cogito) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
