Hey there, everyone! My name is Raye; I'm a senior English major at the University of Texas Pan American. Hopefully, in the fall of '08, I will begin studies with the MFA Creative Writing program there, where I plan to specialize in Creative Non-Fiction. I have been published in a few small, local publications, but nothing big - yet. xP Anywho, I love to read and I love to write. It's always been a big hobby of mine, but I have really started to dedicate myself to refining my skills over the past few years. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome! Kit603, I have had six poems and one short story published so far. One poem that found its way into the literary arts journal at my university won third prize in the poetry competition and is going to be "competing" at the state level. Hopefully, something will come of that.

Hi beatgen_nerd, welcome to the Writing Forums. Sounds like you've had some encouraging early successes. That is great! Have you taken a good tour if the site yet? Have you poked around the corners to see what hidden gems are here to help everyone write better, or just to know one another better? Have you wondered why we prevent members from posting works in the Review Room forums before they write some reviews of their own? This particular question often puzzles newcomers - it puzzled me, even though it was only a recommendation at the time. Several reasons have been given, but to me the most important is that analyzing someone else's work does more to improve your writers eye than receiving reactions from others. It also makes you more receptive to suggestions. And as writers, improving our writing is a constant goal. So welcome again, and I hope you find the site, and more importantly, the people who make it what it is, helpful and friendly. Have fun!
