    Hey, Everyone!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by What a Sight, Jun 17, 2009.

    Hello!

I am new here, as you can probably tell. I found this place on a Google search for a place I could submit my writings for both critique and the fun of it. You could call my style creative, spiritual, negative, uplifting, whatever; it's still a writing that I hold personal to myself. My writings are meant to make you think about life in different ways without forcing anything.

    -----

    Other information about myself:

    - I am a young teenager.

    - I have always been a fan of writing lyrics, poetry, etc.

    - I am looking for critique mainly, but fun is fine too.

    - I love to laugh! :D

    - I love having friends that share my same interests.

    - I love making others, especially my friends, laugh.

    - I love to do the best I can to help others with any problems they may be facing.

    - I believe there is a God.

    -----

Other than all that, I really look forward to meeting you guys, and having a great time while I'm here! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your forums!

    Stay Blessed!

Hey WAS. You seem like a chipper, cool guy I could get along with! So what types of songs and poetry and possible novels do you like to write, in terms of genres? And do you like music?! That's quite important, as I happen to love music. I can't have a silent moment playing on my computer :love:3. Anyways, I'd love to see some of your work, as you appear to be quite interesting. Call me Hedge or Greg.

And enjoy your path to literary enlightenment, while you're at it. :]

    Hehe...Hey, Hedge!

I write whatever I believe is placed on my heart at the time. No novels yet, but it may happen someday somehow. I'd like to put a genre on my writings, but I don't know if I can. From what I can see, it changes in some way or another. Poetry does have a genre for me. Free Verse. I never was a big fan of rhyming, matching syllables, and all that junk.

I love music!! Music is really important to me, as well as a few other things in my life. Hehe...I'd have to say that I need silence when I'm writing; otherwise, I'd be tempted to take what I'm listening to and put it in something that is supposed to be my own. But other than that, I love listening to music while I'm surfing around on my computer too!

Thanks, Hedge. I should be posting something of my own soon in the Poetry section.

    Stay Blessed!

Hello WaS, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Before you can get critique, you must first give critique. This is not just a quid pro quo, it is because improving your critiquing skills is the primary focus of the Review Room workshop.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
