Hello everybody. I'm a little nervous about joining this forum, so you'll have to excuse me. I do creative writing now and then, but don't publish it because I like to share my work with my Internet friends. I'm currently writing 2 stories based on friendship that involves me, 2 badminton friends, 1 friend I knew from a camping trip years ago but got back in touch with her and 8 Internet friends. I'm not very good at writing stories, I was going to do a manuscript but never done one before so I use story maps instead. When it comes to stories, my English writing skills aren't that good, there's so much I want to learn and remember as well, I did get one of those 'Teach Yourself' Creative Writing from my local library. I also thought I could join this forum to see and hear what other writers like yourselves write about, also would like a few pointers about doing any kind of creative writing or just writing stories. Thanks for the warm welcome, I think I'm going to enjoy it here.. still a little nervous because my English skills aren't that good when it comes to writing stories because I tend to get grammar and punctuation mixed up or sounds wrong , will anybody be able to help me with that? I do read books about Japanese fiction or travel books on Japan, that's one country I'd love to visit, but it's very expensive for flights. There's so much to learn and remembering. I'm not sure if anybody will like my themes of stories, they're based on friendship, loyalty, comedy and adventure.
Haha, how can anyone not like adventure? I think the rule is that you should review the works of others before you submit anything to be reviewed, so once you do that why don't you post one of your stories? I'm sure you'll get a lot of help, especially with punctuation and grammar, if that's what you're looking for.
Hello Moon, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum).
