Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by princessgirl, Aug 1, 2011.

Hey!!I'm Ashley,I saw the forum on a google ad and I though I give it a shot so I can improve on my writing.I started to get serious about writing during my junior year of high school,I'm hoping that I can finish my first novel. Novels that inspire me are 1984,Animal Farm, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, Catcher in the Rye, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,Atlas Shrugged,The Great Gatsby Anthem and War and Peace. Some of my favorite authors are George Orwell, Ray Bradbury, J.D. Salinger, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Leo Tolstoy, Aynd Rand and Aldous Huxley.

Favorite Bands - I think music right now is sort of crappy which exception of few artists. I love 1970s punk - Iggy Pop, The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols. Also 1980s Heavy Metal - Metallica, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Slayer, Pantera, Van Halen with David not Sammy, Guns N'Roses.I love late 1980s Gangster Rap - N.W.A, Public Enemy and early 1990s and late 1990s rap - Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, DMX, Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Master P, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Eazy E and Ice Cube. Also I should say that I love Blink-182 and The Dead Kennedys.

I have too many songs that I really like to just pick one that I love. But I can name few that are always in my playlist. Some of those songs are Juicy, Hypnotize, Big Poppa, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Brenda's got Baby, Dear Momma, Me against the World, Master of Pupper, One, Fight Fire with Fire and Bring Noise. Also other songs that grace my playlist are Nuthing But G Thang, Lust for Life, Wild Child, China, MTV Get Off the Air, School is out for the Summer, All the Small Things, What's my Age Again, Josie,Dammit and Blitzkrieg Bop.

Art - Too many pieces again to name. But I love the works of Picasso, Velazquez, Peter Paul Ruben, Rembrandt, Raphael, Dali, Monet.

TV Shows - I don't have much time for TV. But I love anything on the History Channel, Showtime, HBO and the Travel Channel. My favorite shows are Pillars of the Earth, Spartacus and the Tudors.

Film - Too many films to name. But some of my favorites are Good Morning Vietnam!, Apocalype Now, The GodFather, Donnie Brasco, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, V for Vendetta, The Matrix.

My interests besides writing are playing lacrosse and just hanging out at the beach, I'm a total beach bum. I don't have many contemporary authors that I truly enjoy besides Tom Clancy, j.K. Rowling and this is non-fiction but I love Jared Diamond - Germs, Guns and Steel. I forgot to mention three of my favorite authors are Dante, Sun Tzu and Machiavelli

Sports - Lacrosse and Beach Volleyball

Favorite Color - Pink and Baby Blue

That is me!!I hope to learn a lot from y'all and improve my writing.

Hello Ashley, Welcome to the Creative Writing Forums.

Please read How to Use the Writing Workshop before you try to post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Writing Workshop, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Writing Workshop, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. We also impose a two-week waiting period before you may post writing for critique, to give you time to become familiar with what is expected and how the site operates. The Writing Workshop forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Writing Workshop forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
