Hello everyone! I registered here back in 2011, but as a commenter on my profile pointed out today, I never introduced myself! My name is Jenna, and at the moment I feel like I'm a professional student. I studied history (World Wars/Canada/UK focus) with an uncompleted minor in psychology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University while I was living in my native British Columbia, then moved to Newfoundland in 2012 to start a second degree at Memorial Univesity of Newfoundland. I started in the engineering program, and completed 2 years and 1 co-op internship in electrical engineering, before deciding that I'd rather do computer (software) work. Lo and behold, it is worlds easier to switch to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program than it is to just change disciplines within engineering, so that's what I did. Now I'm stuck in the bottle neck of 2nd year CS course work with no room for electives left, and no non-CS requirements remaining. I did manage to finish that psychology minor, though! I have been both an avid book worm and an enthusiastic (though sporadic) writer since early childhood. When it comes to reading, I tend to find myself looking to the shelves of the Science Fiction & Fantasy section. Some of my favourite authors include Robert J. Sawyer, Patrick Rothfuss, Kevin Hearne, Erin Morgenstern, Robin Hobb, Mercedes Lackey, and Patricia Briggs. When it comes to writing, I also thoroughly enjoy science fiction & fantasy, but I also really, truly love writing general fiction of the drama / not-so-cheesy "soap opera" variety. I use the drama fiction pieces to explore human psychology, because I find it absolutely fascinating, and sometimes it helps me to better understand myself. I've also dabbled in poetry, and actually did manage to get one poem published in the school district's annual student anthology back in 9th grade. The anthology is "Voices Visible," published by the BCTF, and it would have been the 2003 edition. My copy is in a box somewhere at my mother's place. If anyone happens to have a copy, the poem is "The Meeting Place" and credited to Jennifer Galland.
Hi Jenna, and welcome to the forum! Wow, you've studied so many things! How awesome! Have you ever considered game developing? A good story can also work wonderfully in a good game. Here's our New Member Quick Start to get you started around here. Have fun! -Kat
Oh hey. I see you took my advice! But wait, 2011? I thought it was more recent than that. How are you still on new member status? Do you just not say much?
No, I joined during NaNoWriMo in 2011 and then forgot where this place was. I just found it again the other day and discovered I already had an account! (<-- I haven't used this avatar anywhere since about 2011 either)
