Is it possible to be Game Under?

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Game Over, Dec 13, 2008.

    Hi all.

I am quite new to this writing thang. Not writing in general, but to writing for fun. It had always seemed a somewhat arduous task to me. Then late last year I got very drunk for about a month after work each day, and by the end of it, I had written a 260 page screenplay and it struck me that I rather liked it.

Since then I have been editing and editing and editing away to whittle the screenplay down to a proper length, somewhere around 140 pages and have just started to play around with ideas for a sitcom.

I'm not sure this is the type of writing that many people get up to around here from my brief sojourn around the forums, but I wholeheartedly hope to be wrong. Any kind of constructive criticism is more than welcome.

With this in mind, I would like to humbly submit my blog for your perusal. I do hope someone enjoys it just a little. It will make it all worthwhile :)

    Thanking you all.

Hello Game Over, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

I took a quick look at your blogs, and I didn't see anything in them that would violate our content rules. We have all kinds of writing, and writers here.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Welcome Game Over! That is a very interesting way to write a screenplay, I have honestly never heard that before :D

    Hi Cogito.

Many thanks. I made sure to read the forum rules before posting.

Maintaining the blog in a non swearing way has been very arduous, due to my using swear words as punctuation in real life, and unfortunately being English.

It is a task that makes the vitriol part of it challening at least.

I found the screenwriting part of the forum, and have already ordered the screenwriters bible. I'm not sure any of my family would realise I wanted something like that for christmas. Poor lost souls that they are.
