A shy hello from a confident man

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by simonwindmill, Jul 1, 2012.

    Hi All. My name’s Simon.

About 2 years ago I embarked on a writing project, something other than diarising which was my main experience of writing up to that point. Grand ideas of writing a book, in a forum of authors and aspiring authors I guess I’m not alone. I know what I want to write, I’m in the process of writing My Book. It’s my own personal journey, the reader following me as I learn to write a book. I’ve enjoyed writing for quite some time, I lack confidence in my work but I know it’s not completely useless. The main idea of the book is to introduce myself to the reader and map out how I plan to learn how to write a book, it’s offers (at present plan) a personal insight into me and will allow the reader to enjoy, hopefully, writing spanning multiple genres, as I practice writing, find my style and develop. Being that it’s a journey I’m currently on, it’s being written real time, as I take certain steps towards my writing. That’s what has led me here, to this point. I am really enjoying writing, but I don’t know if it’s actually any good, so part of the process has to be to get feedback on my work, take constructive criticism and build on it, reach as many people as I can and hope that I can get enough feedback to create work that people enjoy reading.

I’m excited about where I am, it’s very early for this but already every spare moment is spent writing, either the personal diary side of my book, or pieces that I could include in it. I want to make sure I’m travelling in the right direction, I know I still have lots of work to do, but at the moment I don’t really know what that is. My hope is that from this forum I can get some objective and helpful guidance that will eventually help me become the writer I aspire to be.

I’m not really sure how to progress. I’ve joined Writing Forums in the hope that I can get the feedback I’m after. I’m also planning to read as much as possible, your experiences and your work, I’m not sure how much value I can add yet, I have no qualifications that mean I can feedback in that sense, but I will give you my perspective, opinions and thoughts.

Anyway – That’s me. I look forward to ‘meeting’ many of you through the forums.

    Thanks for reading
    Simon

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Simon!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
