    Hi

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by enO, Oct 10, 2007.

My name is Cory and I am currently taking some time off from college/university. I am by no means an experienced writer but with all this free time on my hands I would love to get a better feel for writing. Im unsure of the average writing talent in this forum so I may be in over my head, but I guess it's better to have your work completely obliterated and learn from it as opposed to getting undeserved praise ;).

I hope to put out something in the near future, but considering it will be my first attempt at writing fiction outside of the classroom, it may take a while!

    Cheers

Welcome to the forums, Cory. I hope you enjoy the company here, and find it useful. And whilst critique here may seem a little harsh, it only comes from the standpoint of wanting to help you improve. Anyway, take a look around and see what you think. If you run into any difficulties, or have any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm always happy to help.

Hello Cory, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hi Cory and welcome to WF.org.
I hope that you have a wonderful time here with all of us and I look forward to seeing you around the boards.
I hope that you find your time here to be beneficial to help with your writing endeavours.
There is plenty to look around at and get involved with, so take some time to have a good look around.
Well do enjoy the time you spend here and if you ever have any question myself and the rest of the members here are only a PM away. :)

You're quite right it is pretty useless to only get praise, but nice for the ego. I think we for the most part offer fairly unbias opinions on people's work whilat at all times trying to be constructive. I certainly speak for myself. Anyway it's good you could join us and I'll be seeing you.

Be sure to check out our writing contest which you'd be more than welcome to join.

And be sure to watch out for the next poetry contest too, but in the meantime feel free to cast your vote on this week's entry to have your say on the winner.
