    Greetings!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Darksoul, Dec 13, 2007.

    Hello,

My name is Jelle, alias "Dark soul". Yes, sounds silly, doesn't it.
"Probably another one of those emo young teenagers set on nagging our ears off!"
No worries, it is just an unimaginative nickname I invented when I was young, and very much into videogames. I never quite got rid of it, although "Sudor" is a name - or a role, rather - I assume occasionally in fantasy contexts and roleplaying.

But I'm wandering off-topic! It will probably happen more often, although I can be very concise when the need comes.
So, who am I, if not the brat struggling to reach puberty?
In essence, I am a Belgian student in Dutch and English Linguistics and Literature. Writing is a major hobby of mine, although my experience is very limited. My studies already reveal my passion for both linguistic topics as writing techniques and literature on the whole.
One thing that may yet prove to hold me down in my literary aspirations within this forum (because outside it, I write in Dutch as well), is that English isn't my mother tongue. Nonetheless, I appreciate English as least as much as I do Dutch.

Though this is my first post here, I am already very thrilled to be a part of the forum's memberlist. I snooped around a bit, and what I saw excited me to no end. Several sections caught my attention. The language topics, the literature topics, the writing topics, the reviewing topics, the roleplaying... a mere glance at those divisions and I already feel at home!

As for activity prospects, I can't guarantee to visit every day, but whenever I have the time, I will surely drop by, leave a reply here and there and occasionally post something of my own. I have recently started a story, after suffering from a few-month writer's block. But I am very insecure about language and style. If I don't let parts of my story be reviewed now and then, I will end up re-evaluating and adjusting the beginning, never quite getting it to my liking...

Enough rambling. I know long posts are dreary to read, especially when they're about so dull a topic;)
My apologies if I already bored you!:)

Looking forward to participating in the activities!

Hello Jelle, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you hadn't told us that English is not your first language, I'd never have known. Your command of the language seems to be better than many who speak only English.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Writing Workshops, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Writing Workshops, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Writing Workshops on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just bulletin boards for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

I agree with Cogito. That was a very impressive introduction.

This is, in my opinion, the premium writing site. The sheer diversity of features and member dedication is superb. You'll enjoy your time here, even if it's not every day.

    Anyway, welcome to the site!

It definitely wasn't dull, I found it quite interesting. Also, as Cogito said, If you hadn't mentionned that English was not your first language then I probably would not have noticed.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, its good to have you here and I really do hope that you stick around :)

And such a warm welcome too:p

I'm glad it wasn't all that soporific then;)
I'm just not one to boast and babble a lot about myself; hope you won't think some of my comments above as being a cheap example of false modesty:D

Again, nice to meet you all.
Now, off for some forum postings;)

I would just like to welcome you to the insanities of WF.org. A place where you can unleash both the writer and the inner child inside that is waiting patiently to escape. lol

I do hope that you have a most wonderful time here with all of us. There are a lot of things for you to get involved in and a heck of a lot of wonderful and helpful information on all aspects of writing lurking around the different forums within this board.

So sit down and get comfy with a nice hot or cold drink and probably a few snacks as well and enjoy reading everything that we have all got to say and do feel free to join in wherever you feel that you can.

Ok so now that I have rambled away to you I will let you go and enjoy your time here with all of us.

    See you around the boards.

Welcome to one of the fastest growing writers forums ....

    Dear Writer,

Welcome to one of the fastest growing writers forums on the web. I’m sure if you hang around long enough you’ll begin to make new friends and enjoy becoming a participating member of the writersforum.org. I am sure each new member will bring something new and valuable to the forum as well as find it an interesting and wonderful place to explore and learn more about the wonderful world of writing.

I have been away for awhile myself, and unfortunately have not been able to keep up with greeting the large influx of new members personally. Please forgive, but except my sincerest and belated welcome to the forum.

    Cordially yours,

    Trailer Trash
