He winked saucily and waited for Nick's reply.
Nick chuckled softly, but the laugh didn't reach his eyes.
"Now were would be the fun in that? I couldn't treat someone of your calibre as a common businessman, could I? You'd lose all respect for me."
Besides, if I ever decide to have you assassinated, I'd rather know where you are sleeping, he added silently.
For now, however, the bloodthirsty maniac could still be useful to him.
"Regardless of my lack in communication skills, I did wanted to contact you. I was planning on waiting a few more days, but since you are here now, I might as well take this opportunity."
He leaned closer to the vampire.
"You see, I am looking for someone with your, shall we say, expertise. I've recently aquired a certain artefact, my people believe it's Aztec in origin, but aren't able to tell me anything else. I was at a loss, I can tell you, but then I asked to myself, who knows more about the Aztecs then my experts? Why, the man who slaughtered the whole lot of them, off course." Nick smiled deviously.
"I would love to show you said artefact and hear any input you could provide me with." He slipped his hand into the pocket and produced a piece of paper. "I will off course compensate you for your time, would this suffice?" And he handed Santiago the paper.

"Ah, yes, Ms. Underwood. You have graced many of my newspapers." Clockwise took Shoshanna's hand in his gloved one, giving a hearty handshake. "Pleased to meet you and Mr. Bas-"

Era elbowed him sharply in the ribs, her scowl framed by her lace mask. "Jimmy." She corrected as she cast him a glance and a smile gradually came to her red lips. "I do think I've heard of you."

She'd heard of him, alright. The man was a common source of complaint by the many gossipers of the Golden Alliance. A nuisance, some of the high powers said he didn't even deserve to be a hero. But, what did they know? Anyone who saved lives and had fun while doing so, deserved to be a hero in her book. Besides, every hero had been called things, good and bad. Being criticized came with the job. Though that didn't give her a reason to add further judgement on fellow heroes...or former villains.

Era looked to Shoshanna. "Wonderful to run into you both. I suppose these killing machines have brought us together. Have any leads on what's going on?"

Clockwise rubbed his side, visibly swallowing back his retorts. "We believe this may be an act of hacking, but by who or what, is the question."

"I was hoping you guys might have some answers, but it looks like we're all in the same boat," Jimmy said as he knelt before one of the droids. The dark lenses of his sunglasses began to glow as data and blueprints of the droid flashed before his eyes. The glasses had facial recognition technology, linked to a database of all registered heroes and villains. He rarely needed it, since his obsession with heroes made him a walking encyclopedia of heroic knowledge anyway, but the glasses could retrieve other data too.

In this instance, it wasn't telling him much he didn't already know. The droids were of a design used to patrol Alcatraz, but that was pretty much common knowledge to anyone associated with the GA… or anyone who'd been to Alcatraz. All he needed to know was where to find the-

"Ah, there it is!" Jimmy said, peeling back a half-busted panel on the back of the droid's head to reveal its computerized brain. With a few tugs, he yanked the box out. "I'm no hacker, but maybe we can find someone who is and have 'em take a look at this." He offered the box to Era.

"I'm sure the GA will do that themselves," Shoshanna said, folding her arms. "These are their robots. They'll take the remains to one of their specialists and get to the bottom of this."

"True… but how about we get a second opinion," Jimmy said with a slight smirk. "Let's take it to an expert not associated with the GA. What about…" he thought for a moment. "Technoman?"

Shoshanna laughed. "That 'vigilante' who fights evil by hacking Facebook pages? Don't be silly. He couldn't hack his way out of a paper bag, much less into the brain of an Alcatraz bot."

"Okay, how about the Cyber Twins?"

Shoshanna scoffed. "They haven't been seen in nearly a year. Probably retired."

    "Datadude?"

"Stabbed while trying to break up a bank robbery last week. Still in a medically-induced coma, last I heard."

"Oh, geez…" Jimmy winced. He scratched his chin for a moment, trying to think of anyone else. Then, a little light bulb went off in his head. "Ms. Tomorrow!"

Shoshanna looked indifferent for a moment, then began to nod her approval. Ms. Tomorrow was a delusional futurist, but her suit was proof she at least knew a thing or two about tech. Also, Ms. Tomorrow was very active; she popped up in the news almost daily. She was probably fighting a robot somewhere right now.

"Sounds good to me… assuming, of course, or GA friends don't attack her on sight," she said, staring intensely at Clockwise. Why she singled him out, instead of Era, was anyone's guess.

“As villains some hath proclaimed themselves, others as heroes though”

“Who shall we trust, and who shall we thrust?!”

    “Can’t you read their hearts?”

“Too many people, too disordered and too many voices!”

“Oh steel knight and his princess, we humble ask you to enlighten us. Of who we should be aware of?”

Milly laughs at the two. The way they spoke was so weird, but amusing.
    She decided to enlighten them.

"Beware the Vampire!" She declared pointing at Santiago. "He's evil and has grumpy pants on."
"That guy," She pointed at Joe. "Is DJ and...he kinda looks to wimpy to be a bad guy. Future lady is a good guy in my book but the G.A. doesn't think so. I want her suit. So lucky. Um..." She continued to look around. "I don't know about the boys in night gowns." Milly said pointing at Scorpius and Blitz. "But the guy in the dress gave me a cookie and the other guy put on clothes when I asked...so I bet they are good. Right?" She chirped?

I blinked a few times as Milly said that I was 'wimpy'. "I look wimpy... really...? Maybe it's the broken ankle...?" I asked tilting my head. "Well I also appear to look like a pervert..." I muttered more to myself more than anything. "Um... I also have to correct some of your information, I'm not a DJ." I said chuckling, rubbing the back of my head. "I mean don't get me wrong, I enjoy music, but doing that for a living would be super boring... well, to me at least." I said smiling.

"His angle he broke, to fix it we must!"
"But healing powers we have not!"
"Yet is just bones and ligaments that twisted are, with our mind to put them in position we can!"
"More than twisted it looks to me, shattered if I will"
"More reason to fix it then, just rearrange the pieces!"
"True is smart brother, allow me then!"

Artemis waved her finger, at the same moment the whole ankle of the detective spinned in the opposite direction and then again to the center all while being accompanied by some dubious cracking sounds.

I looked over at the twins, I smiled, thinking about Leon and I... and then that smile quickly turned into a grimace as I held onto my scythe tightly, letting loose a very long string of obscenities, when it was over I gingerly put my foot down onto the ground and then immediately pulled it back up. "AH! THAT'S WORSE! A LOT WORSE!" I shouted, struggling to stay standing.

In Artemis's face a nervous smile was drawn.

"Fixed it did not, perhaps if a move it like this" said waving her finger again however the face and curses of the man were proof enough that it failed again.

"Or should I do this........" Artemis was about to move the joint again yet the hand of her brother patting her shoulder stopped her.

"It's done sister, there is nothing we can do. Oh cruel fate why did you had to take that poor ankle from that man!"
"It's so unfair brother of mine!"
"We're sorry wimpy shady man, but this is the limit where our powers can do nothing for you"

At this point I was on the ground clutching my leg. I looked up at the female twin and gave a shaky thumbs up and a strained smile. "It's fine... really, your intentions were good... just... next time... get someone who can help with a broken bone, and please just call me... Detective, or D... 'Wimpy Shady Man' is pretty rude." I said.

"I will off course compensate you for your time, would this suffice?"

Santiago looked down at the paper Nick had given him and it burned up in a sudden flare of purple fire. All that was left was a tiny pinch of ash that Santiago dusted it off of his elegant leather-gloved hands.

"I don't need money, Nick," Santiago said, grinning a grin that looked purely vampiric. "What I want is your blood. I need a steady donor, someone who will willingly let me feed on them. I won't take too much at a time, just a pint to slake my thirst. And I won't turn you into a vampire...unless you want me to. I'm very good at it. All of my fledglings have gone on to be fantastic bloodsuckers. Ever heard of Lady Gaga?"

"Beware the Vampire!" She declared pointing at Santiago. "He's evil and has grumpy pants on."

Milly's whiny voice tweaked Santiago's ears and he gave the upstart tween a withering glare. His eyes didn't turn completely red, but they glowed crimson around the edges, just a little. 'I'm going to eat her when that robot isn't around,' Santiago thought to himself. He smiled on the inside. Making plans to kill people always made him feel content.

Santiago gazed around briefly at the gathering of superheroes and suddenly felt uncomfortable. All this...goodness...it was sickening. Like drinking the congealed blood of a corpse. He shivered and turned back to Nick.

"So, what do you say, Sieur Kelvin?" Santiago asked politely.

"Stop, stop, stop," Blitz finally cut in, kneeling down to examine the pervert's leg. "Alright, this looks... pretty damn nasty, actually, but nothing that can't be fixed." There was a quick tug, and Blitz tugged the leg straight, then focused. Rapidly, bone knit itself, torn muscle stitched together. In a few seconds, Blitz stood, wiping sweat from his brow.
    Done.

I looked at Blitz as he knelt down next to me and winced as tugged my leg straight, but didn't pull back... and slowly, I felt the pain melt away... I slowly stood up and put weight on my once injured leg. "...A-Amazing, thank you very much!" I said, bowing to him, I knelt down and scooped up my scythe and folded it back into the black rectangular case and slid it into the back loops of my belted trench coat, which appeared to have been altered to allow it to slide in.

"So, what do you say, Sieur Kelvin?" Santiago asked politely.

"Alas, Heredero de Sangre, I can not give you the payment you seek, as good a deal as it might be. My barber would be very upset with me if I let someone else wield sharp objects near my throat, he's very particular about that. Unfortonate indeed, it seems we can not help each other here, but that doesn't mean we can't have any business together in the future. He flashed a new card showing his contact information and handed it to the vampire. "After all, in our line of work you never know when you could need a little... let's say out-of-the-coffin thinking."

"After all, in our line of work you never know when you could need a little... let's say out-of-the-coffin thinking."

Santiago took Nick Kelvin's card, and this time he didn't make it burst into flames. He tucked it into an inner pocket of his huge, flowing cloak and gave Nick a firm nod, like lawyers did to each other on TV. Santiago didn't have much experience with lawyers (in his experience, if someone got on his bad side he dragged them to the cemetery, not to court), but from what he'd gleaned on late-night showings of SVU lawyers weren't that different from life-sucking vampires.

"I'll tell you what," Santiago said in the same voice that the Devil probably used when he was about to strike a deal. "Take this." The ancient Vampire held out a small glass phial of dark red fluid. "This is my blood. Drink it whenever you need to and it will increase your strength and endurance ten-fold, and heal all of your injuries and ailments. It will also increase your physical beauty."

"I'm giving this to you without any strings attached," Santiago continued smoothly, "because I like your heart. It's dark and corrupt. Just like mine. And I will help you with your Mayan artifact free of charge, just because I'm terribly curious about it." With a smirk, Santiago continued to hold out the ominous blood phial.

Nick held out his hand to take the vial, brushing his fingers to the vampire's, they were as cold as death itself.
"Thank you for such a generous gift, I'll be sure to look after it in a matter befitting of the boon of an ancient and terrible force such as yourself," he said and placed the vial in his breast pocket, over his heart. "But I simply can't accept a service without offering something in return. Tell you what, whatever benefit this artefact may or may not provide, let us share it like equals. If you accept that, let us meet here two days from now. I imagine the current nonsense will have calmed down by then." He held out his hand, the same he used to handle the vial, "Partners?".

Santiago smiled and took Nick's hand, giving it a manly squeeze. "Partners," Santiago purred before letting go. Holding Nick's hand was too tempting: he could feel his blood pulsing in his veins and it made his mouth water and his fangs grow three inches longer. Trying his best to hide his fangs, Santiago turned and pretended he was watching everyone socialize and squabble and do whatever it was heroes did.

Truth be told, heroes were a mystery to Santiago. Why, in the name of all that was holy, would someone with great powers chose to use those powers to help people when they could rule them instead? That way, they could create a society where criminal acts simply did not occur. Thinking about it made Santiago's eyes glow slightly with a pinkish reddish hue. World domination was an elusive thing and the most nefarious villains had failed in their quest to achieve it.

Santiago was egocentric enough to think that HE would be the one to succeed where so many had failed...and he had the balls to actually pull it off.

Ms. Tomorrow began punching in various codes and combinations into her bracelet. “Yes.” She said. “I am the Ms. Tomorrow from the future.”

She smirked. "Don't let anyone tell you different, I'm one of the great heroes of the 2080s and I was supposed to be attending a charity event until I ended getting blasted back here by one of the stupid meta terrorists."

"Much tougher then these drones are you all sure you have no clue on any rogue Golden Alliance members?"

    ---

As the group conversed with one another attempting to figure out what could have caused this destruction, a shot rang out! By the time anybody had realized one of the dismantled drones still had enough power left to take aim it was already too late; the bullet had left the chamber and sailed right towards Nick!

It tore straight trough Nick's leg bringing him down.

"Shit!" Tomorrow snapped lifting her boot and smashing the drone's head with all the force she could muster.

As Jimmy rambled off names, Clockwise gripped the handle of his cane tighter. Each tech hero he disliked, GA or not, flashing their shiny modern gadgets. When he heard that Datadude had been put into a coma, he figured he had it coming.

And then, Jimmy dropped the bomb. Ms. Tomorrow.

The vigilante reeked of tech. For months, he'd wished to take her down, be the one to finally stop that supposedly 'futuristic' woman. Once he'd spotted her and was tempted to start a battle, but Era had warned against the bad timing, saying that it wasn't worth getting himself killed because of her. With his pride bruised, he had retreated, but he hadn't stopped watching her, waiting for the right opportunity to fully get his wish.

"Sounds good to me… assuming, of course, our GA friends don't attack her on sight."

He cleared his throat, averting his eyes from Shoshanna's hawk-like stare. It was almost as if she could see into his thoughts. He hadn't read that she had that ability in the papers.

Clockwise felt a hand rest on his tense shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze. Era nodded to Shoshanna. "No attacks."

"We have a duty to fulfill, an oath." Clockwise said, shrugging away from Era to tap his cane firmly to the concrete. "Ms. Tomorrow is a Wanted Vigilante, if you'd like to work with her, by all means, go. But, we will not be following."

"Clockwise..." Era sighed. "This is an important matter, can't you set aside your opinions until we get the answers we need? First things, first."

He scratched his beard, looking between the three of them. "If she refuses to work with us, what then?"

"Nick!" yelled Jenny and she shot towards her friend.
"Oh dear, these were my favorite pants," was al Nick managed to say before Jenny reached him.
"Nick! Stay with me Nick, don't go into the light!" screamed Jenny.
"Human's aren't that fragile, little jinn, just help me get a field dressing done. Oh and one more thing."
    "What?"
Nick glanced at Apollo and Artemis, "Don't let them try to help me."

"No idea, I like to stay away from Brainwashed Government Puppets... er... no offense." I said glancing over at Milly, and then I jumped back as I heard a bullet fire, I reached all over my body and sighed in relief when I found I was perfectly fine. I then looked over at the man. "O-Oh crap, you okay?" I asked, rushing over to him... though, I didn't know what to do, I mean, I wasn't really trained in first aid and I didn't have any supplies... I really should learn... maybe get Leon to rig something up for me.

Nick looked at the newcomer, was he really wearing a trenchcoat and scythe? There really were all sorts of people in this world.
The Prince prided himself on his knowledge of people, he knew anyone who was anyone in this town, and most of the ones outside of it.
    "Who are you?"

"I'm known as The Detective, it's nice to meet you." I said smiling. "Er... well, it'd be better if we meeting under better circumstances, buuut... what can you do, right?" I asked smiling, I looked down at his leg and winced a little seeing the hole, it wasn't very pretty. "Hm... there's a healer over there... he was able to repair my ankle, I'm sure that he can deal with a bullet wound." I said, I turned around and waved toward Blitz, trying to get him to come over.

Bill was in the sky again. This time, a plethora of blades, axes, lances, and pure spheres of steel orbited around him while he stood on a platform of aluminum.

Bill spotted a group of heroes wearing different outfits on the ground somewhere, and he decided to investigate. If these were GA, good news. If they weren't... Bill would take them down. There was enough metal in the area for him to do significant damage. He flew down from his position. Water droplets landed on the ground under him as the water in the air condensed as he pulled in heat. He landed on top of a building, stopping the intake of heat. His storage was at a third.

He saw a little girl with a robotic companion near her, probably Milly, one of the younger recruits to the GA, and quickly went to her side. Nearby, two shady figures were exchanging words. Also nearby are a few other figures, but Bill had children very high up on his priorities.

"You okay, sweetie? Do you know them?"

"If she refuses to work with us, what then?"

“Then we’ll let the Alliance handle it. Nothing gained, nothing lost,” Jimmy said rather nonchalantly. “But arresting her is out of the question. Asking for someone’s help and then attacking them just… well, it just doesn’t seem right, man. What’s up with you? You seem pretty bent out of shape over this? You got something against Ms. Tomorrow?”

“No,” Shoshanna said, before Clockwise could speak for himself. “He was wearing that same salty look on his face long before you mentioned her.” She stepped a little closer and peered down at Clockwise, as if sizing him up. She looked as if she was about to give him a piece of her mind, but, when she spoke, it was to the other woman instead, in a calm even tone. “Era, darling, you’ve been most kind, but we seem to have caught your man at a bad time. Perhaps it is best we go our separate ways. I see violence in this one. Why tempt him further?”
