    hello

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by PfatBudz, Aug 8, 2008.

The one reason I speak of is a piece of writing I produced almost completely at random, it is a bit controversial so I would like to apologize to anyone offended b4 hand. It is nothing offensive but it is a new form of activism that has gained me as much flak as praise. But I want as many eyes as possible to see it, whether you believe the message or not.
Please just read it first and make your own opinions of it.

I have no formal experience in the writing field but I have a few other things I have written lately and perhaps I will post them down the road as well.

Regardless, good to meet you all and I hope to find some good stuff to read as well.

Hello Pfat Budz, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

First off, one thing you should know is that this is, first and foremost, a writing site. That may sound like I'm saying the obvious, but the point is that writing is posted in the Review Room here for discussion of the style and effectiveness of teh writing, not to evaluate the message contained within. In fact, posts that focus on debating thge message are deleted. If you want people to comment on the message instead of the writing, it should be posted in your member blog instead.

In generall, posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Cool
Thx everybody for all the warm welcome.
I had the chance to go through a few poems and stories last night and I really enjoyed it, this seems like a top notch forum community, and when I get a good amount of time I am looking forward to reading some of the longer pieces.
Admitedly, I had the one motive of getting my activist writing only seen but I have allready come to respect this forum as a gathering of writers. Bear with me as I learn the etiquette of this particular forum, I mean no intrusion.

We've certainly got plenty to offer as a forum goes with competitions and various other aspects.

Also feel free to offer a short story for the forum anthology The Captains Table

On that note Welcome to the forums.
