Hey guys, Don't know what to write here, but it's the first thing I saw on the site, so I thought I might as well post something. Yeah, so, my name's Macca. In case you're assuming that I'm a guy, I'd just like to mention that I am NOT. I love writing because it lets me express my feelings and tell stories. I love all of Sarah Dessen's and Melina Marchetta's books, and I love James Patterson's Maximum Ride sereies. I hope to become a famous author one day, but if that fails, I want to be a police officer. Another one of my passions is music, and I play a few instruments. So feel free to leave me a message or whatever it is you do (still exploring the site and not quite sure how it works yet) and I can't wait to post some of my writings. Ciao for now, Macca!!!!! P.S. I am not Italian, even though I used an Italian word.
Hello Macca, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thanks guys. Okeydokey. My list of things to do: 1. Read forum rules, 2. Check out the FAQ, 3. Read some other people's work, 4. Review other people's work, 5. Check out the competitions, 6. Enjoy myself. Did I miss anything? I had pizza last night, actually...it was yummy.
Can someone please tell me: What sort of things do you write in a blog? I've never had one before, and I don't really know what do with it...
Your best bet is to look at the blogs item on the top bar of each page. From there, you can look at several recent blogs, select a blog at random to read, and start your own blog. My blog space here is divided into categories (you can do this too). I have a Portfolio category, with Poetry and Short Story subcategories, which contains samples of my writing. I also have a General Writing category, into which I post articles about writing that I hope will be helpful (see the links in my signature). Think of it as your own corner of the forum. Only you can create threads there, but you can post anything that would be acceptable elsewhere on the site.
