    Hi everyone,

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by poempedlar, Aug 24, 2007.

I am hoping to find people with similar interests able to offer constructive criticism. I expect, like me, your friends read your writing and say things like, 'That's very nice,' which means nothing. Sometimes I miss the blindingly obvious and it takes another person to point out where I have gone wrong. However my main body of work is writing humorous poetry and short stories for children. I might be boring you with examples so bear with me. I shall take time to read your work and learn from it. Poempedlar

Nice to know you Poempedlar. I agree, and I'm sure many of us agree, that constructive criticism is very important. i hope that we can offer you the best we have at hand, and learn from on another.

For brief details of this website, you may want to visit adamant's newbie pack:
    Noobie Packets! - Writing Forums

As a normal member here, I'll introduce you to the basics. The Writing Issues is an important place for learning techniques of writing, breaking out of writing block and finding ways to improve writing in general. For a detailed overview, the Review Room is where you can post your pieces of writing for reviewing. Wait! You must also review two pieces of writing in there before posting your own. To ensure the traffic is not left unattended ;) Then comes the Community Interaction Area, where there are many fun things to do, word games to play, books to discuss and simply off-writing discussion in the Lounge. For a competitive work-out, you can always take part in the Story and/or Poetry Contests run on the site.

Remember, follow the forum rules and be nice others. This way, you can enjoy your experience here to the fullest!

    Regards and Best wishes!

Welcome to the forums. I hope that you find what you're looking for here, and that you enjoy the pleasant (if mildly insane) company. If you need any help with anything at all, pease don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to lend a hand.

I hope you find what you're looking for here - sometimes reviews aren't the quickest nor the most informative though many are. If you wish a piece looking over more critically then feel free to ask our dedicated reviewing team, those with the green user names, they should help you out.

Anyway, looking forward to reading your work and welcome to the site.

Hello poempedlar, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Given what you said above, I think you'll find our review philosophy will align well with your needs.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
