    Hi fellow writers!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by MountainBiker, May 18, 2008.

Hey, ready for another wordsmith? I'm a 51 year old service rep that would rather have a job writing, especially Technical Writing, but we'll see how that goes, as I know that can be kind of a tough field to get going in without any experience. Anyway, I love to write non-fiction, especially informative opinion pieces, but it can be daunting when I consider how much has been written already and how much you have to know to write a really astute opinion piece. Well, this is the place to practice and get lots of feedback, so let me say "I'm glad to have found such a cool place where I can be myself and use my creative talents to express myself the best way I can – by putting it in black and white." I'll try not to be too verbose. Let's get going! ~Keith

Hello Keith, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Thanks! Been kind of busy. I'm going to review a couple of pieces so I can post a few things. I'm just a pretty good writer. I want to get more practice. I like to write commentaries and non-fiction type things. Talk to ya' later...

Exactly how do I review something (in this case, an essay) that I have chosen to review? Do I just reply and review it in my reply? Thanks, Cogito! Can't wait to get started so I can get my Hummer H2 diatribe up! ~MountainBiker
