    Hi there!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by K McIntyre, Jun 3, 2016.

Hi there! My name is Karen, and I am the wife of @Lew on this site. I am almost finished with a fantasy novel about wolf shifters. It has been a blast to write! A special HELLO to @jannert - I will be asking you to read it soon. My novel is mercifully shorter than Lew's!

Hi Karen! Nice to have you on board along with Lew. So that's at least two husband/wife teams we've got on here.

Fantasy isn't really my thing (while historical novels definitely are) but I'd be happy to take a look at it. I'll certainly be able to give general feedback as to structure, etc, but probably am not the best person to choose to critique this genre. (Kind of like getting a person who reads sci-fi or thrillers for pleasure to critique a Romance.) However, there are many MANY more people on this thread who ARE fantasy writers and readers. Take a while to get to know everybody, and you will find lots of people willing to give the kind of feedback a fantasy writer needs. I think it's really important to show your work to the kinds of people who would buy it if they didn't 'know' you, if that makes sense. These are the people you want to please—and these are the people who will spot strengths and flaws that specifically matter to the readers of your chosen genre.

The fact that you and Lew are both writers, but write different kinds of things, probably makes for a very interesting and mutually supportive marriage. You'll understand each other's need for writing space, and you'll understand what a writer needs to hear when it comes to a critique. Fantastic. And yet, because you're writing in different genres, you won't be in competition. Even better! :)
