Hello M&M, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

There are members here younger than you, so that's not a problem. We don;t really have any grammar tutorials, but if you pick up and study a writing guide like the Little, Brown Handbook, that will help you immensely. Meanwhile, reading and reviewing other members' work, and getting feedback on your own, you will learn some of the more abstract qualities that make writing good.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Hi there, m&m. Well I wouldn't count on this site to make your work publisher ready, but if you're willing to work hard and follow advice (taking some with a grain of salt :) ), joining an online critiquing group can be a huge benefit to improving your writing. It can also become a drawback. Depends on what kind of attitude you come into it with, and whether or not you're lucky enough to get good reviewers, or (as in the case of other sites I've been on), people who do more discouragement than good. This is a pretty good site though, so I think you'll find it helpful for the most part. Welcome. :) If you have anything special up you'd like to get a review on, you can PM me.

You'll definitely receive constructive criticism, which is a big part of becoming publish-ready, so in a way yes. Joining a writing group is a big step to becoming publish-ready, but so is just writing all the time. Some members of the site aren't even trying to get published, they just want to share their writing with everyone else.

    Welcome to the forum m&M.

Like DrJoe said, you will receive plenty of encouragement and constructive criticism here. Along with every one else, I will try to give you good positive feedback of your work. Just reading your post again, I noticed that some of the words are spelled incorrectly. Do you suffer from dyslexia by any chance? :)

yeah...I know I had a lot of spelling mistakes, I was typing fast and I missed them (that happens to me a lot when I type fast:)) I thought I went back and fixed my spelling error's, but apparently not....either way I can actually spell, shocking though it may seem from my first post. ;) (by the way I would quote, but I can't seem to get the quote thing to work....)

    Welcome

I know this might seem random, but I have to wonder why you have a mobile phone service logo as your avatar. And it's orange, event though you're called yellowm&M, and your signature's red, but its message evokes the color green. So many colors. Again, kinda random, but I kinda felt like pointing it out.

to Last1Left-First off I am perfectly fine with random! Second iInever really noticed how many colors I was using and Third I didn't know that my avatar was mobile phone service...i just thought it was a funny little random picture thing....as I said befor I love random, hence orange when my name says yellow. I was going to find a yellow m&m for my avatar but none seemed interesting enough...now that I know my avatar is actually a phone service I might change it :) as for my signature I put it in red becuase usually people put things they want other's to notice in red...if that makes sense :) hopefullly that explains my many colors! :)
