I'm Wish. I'm 16 and currently in a phase where I want to be all dramatic and deep all the time and contemplate the meaning of life and that's what brought me here. I've always loved to write and meet people with some of the same ideas as I have and I love reading deep quotes and poems and dystopian love stories (as any teenage girl would). So yeah
Hi Wish, and welcome to the forum! Are you working on a dystopian novel yourself? Here's our New Member Quick Start to get you started around here. Have fun! -Kat
Hi! Welcome to the madhouse. What are you writing now in book terms? And do you intend to publish poetry as well?
No actually! I've started several books before but never finished any of them. I'm on a poetry kick currently
Publish as in post on this site. Hence "as well". Sorry for the confusion. It's just posting something publicly on the internet is kind of publishing, isn't it? Just not the book publishing industry. It's like article publishing.
I feel you on not finishing things. That's currently the main focus of my planning and self-development. Make sure I actually finish stuff more often.
I suppose so, I actually wrote a poem last night that I was hoping to get feedback on but it wouldn't let me post it then-- maybe I'll look later to see if it will now.
Hope you can post. Why is this site mean to other people? Am I just lucky? I never get this I can't post problem that some people mention.
I think the rules for posting in the sections allotted for your own work is different than the rest of the site. It's in the FAQ section but basically you need to look at other people's work and post two reviews at a minimum. They need to be reviews with some meat on them... not just a "Looks Great!" response. There's also a waiting period of a week or something from your initial signup. Welcome to the funny farm. **** Edited to add the relevant rule thing... found under the Rules tab... stinkin' rules **** Posting in the Writing Workshop requires 2 or more constructive critiques of other members' work for each new posted work. You must be registered for at least 14 days and have made 20 posts before you can create a thread in our workshops. (This requirement does not apply to members who purchase Supporter status.)
I wouldn't worry so much about the 20 posts thing. I know I can go through that many in a day. The two weeks & two reviews are more important for getting your magical posting wings. You're certainly welcome to read any of my shorts and post scathing comments about my comma usage and lack of elegant prose.
Hi and welcome! I think I must have started 4 seperate novels before actually finishing a first draft of any of them - even now I find myself most of the way through a first draft of a new work (50k words in!) and I haven't even bothered to properly redraft the first one I completed... (redrafts are hell). Just keep writing, you'll get there eventually Yeah, the workshop threads require you to post a few things and offer critiques and advice to other people before it lets you submit your own. It makes sense; otherwise there'd be a lot of people just popping up and trying to get people to help them with their work and then vanishing without ever helping anyone else out.
Sure, that makes a lot of sense. Even though I'm busy with work and school all of the sudden I plan on sticking around
