    Hello writing forums

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by randomme1, Aug 24, 2012.

I guess I should have came here first before I posted a question? Oh well I already got a lot of good answers, better late than never. Anyway as you probably already saw my username is RandomMe1. I love to read a lot, mainly very long series of books like the Dresden Files, Vampire Chronicles (by Anne Rice no twilight or true blood). Things like that. I started writing my own stories for a very simple reason, I read much too quick and can't find enough good stories to fill my time. I blew through all of the current Dresden books in like 2 weeks and am now torturing myself with the wait for Cold Days. Also I find that there aren't a lot of stories out there that just catch my attention and hang on to it for dear life. So what was my solution? Well I will just write a lot of stories of my own to fill the void! Anyway I'm not as experienced as most aspiring author's out there but I have some skill, or so I've been told. But I am not writing for the main reason to just make money, although it would be sweet if I could get published :D . I just want to make an awesome story and maybe give it to a few people to read, or maybe I just read it myself when I am all done. Either/or. I am currently starting my first year of college, hopefully I can find a creative writing class to help me out a bit. And my BIG goal is to write at least two big series of books, I mean at least twenty books apiece. Big goal maybe, but I'm a dreamer. I love fantasy books. I don't really get hung up on which type of fantasy, whether it is sword and horse, scifi, urban or modern, as long as it has a great story I will love it. I also love post-apocalyptic books. I have read a lot of different ones. I loved I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, didn't care for The Hunger Games, have yet to read The Stand but i want to. I liked The Road, but I am trying to find a long post-apocalyptic series that doesn't try to force a religious message on me. Currently I have the ideas set for both of my series. I have already asked advice with my post-apocalyptic series I have planned out. Anyway that is about all I got to say about me. I look forward to getting a bunch of advice and inspiration from the other users on this site! :)

    Welcome to Writing Forums, randomme1!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
