Quotes & Sayings you came up with.

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Acidz, Sep 2, 2011.

I thought I'll share all my random thoughts and sayings, things I came up with in the moment of that particular time space. At the same time I think other that feel they want to share as-well please do so. :)

I did search for something similar but only found one thread about "Quotes", historical people came up with. "" Like 'oom' Hitler :) ""

I'll start off with a couple of stuff:

    Yesterday,
    Long ago :
Here is something random : Was about my love for someone, and in her eyes I couldn't be first in her life.

Thats it for now... I'll add the others later.. ;)

I actually really like this one.

    One of my own:
'Making war is at heart hypocritical.'

Let's see if I can get the wording right on these two from memory.
Yes. I definitely remember saying both of those, and they're kind of linked, you see.
I mean that second one. I don't want to cause offence, but quoting yourself is extremely tacky. Anyone can quote themselves. Not everyone can be quoted by another.

"The world's insane; so just smile and have fun!"

"In 200 years, people will be wondering just how mental we were, just like we do to people 200 years ago."

"Knowing my luck... <insert worst case scenario> will happen."

"Humanity: A bunch of naked apes who've had the balls to create civilizations that span the globe. Damn, we're awesome."

"Everyone's a mental case. Question is: Do we listen to the crazy thoughts or do we not?"

"What you do in your thoughts is between you and yourself. What you do to other poeple is between you and the big guy in the sky."

Not a massive fan of quoting myself, don't want to come across as pompous but as the thread's here...

"My local supermarket is like a zoo in reverse: with the apes in charge."

"If you think about it, everyone's mad, just some people are mad in the normal way."

Not to offend the Canadian WFers here...

    <Me, in the cold, 50-60 degree F weather>
"Jesus, how do the Canadians stand cold weather that's a lot lower than this? Cripes, I couldn't live long there. I'd freeze to death instantly and they'll find my body glued to the concrete just a few feet from the airport."

I also find myself using British slang:

    "Sod it!"
    "Bloody hell..."
    "Poor bugger..."
    "Bollocks!"
    "Bloody..." (just the word, generally)

Consider yourself quoted by someone else. This perfectly sums up this thread.

Edit: Though I have to admit, some of those maiaisms were rather good.

I agree. Quoting yourself does make yourself sound arrogant even if your quotes are very good.

It says, "I'm going to give you my advice whether you want it or not."

Still, it's just for fun, I think. No one's trying to say "I'm more supreme than you" with their quotes.

I don't intend to quote myself as a means of imparting pearls of wisdom, because I find that pretentious. However, hopefully you'll find some of these (genuine) me-isms amusing.

"If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer."

"The essence of innovation is thus: If it doesn't break, it'll be fantastic."

"Life is like a game of cards - you have to play the hand you've been dealt. Unless you know how to cheat, in which case by all means do so."

"The best things in life are not free. That's like saying poor people are the happiest of anyone."

"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

"Misunderstanding is at the heart of all conflicts, and most relationships."

The only things that I've ever said or written that might be considered "quotable" would probably be these two:

"If in doubt, hit it harder!" - my slogan while playing pool for a few years, and I find it useful in martial arts, as well

"It is said that actions speak louder than words but, sometimes, it appears that loud words must be heard before any action is taken." - the last line of a persuasive paper I wrote in High School :p

Thanks. I thought it was pretty funny when it came to mind. My mom called me a son of a bitch joking around, and I was like, "Hey, you just dissed yourself." lol

"A gentleman needs to know when to swallow his pride and ignore his ego when it comes to women."

Do you know what I hate the most about a Hangover? It's that moment when you wake up and somehow you make it to the mirror, and when you finally dare to look up, you see your reflection in some kind of cartoon close-up that makes you go "Holy shit... I'm fucked up."

    YES.

My boyfriend's landlord drives me insane with this very thing. He's writing memoirs or as he says "memwas!" He likes to quote himself all the time. It makes me want to throttle him because he's incredibly pretentious! He wrote up a letter of tenant expectations (no big deal) unfortunately there was so much miss-usage of vocabulary it took me twice as long to read it.

    So as for quotes..

I have no problem with people sharing things they've said. It's when they quote themselves all the time that it bothers me. lol

I do frequently tell people I will "end them" if they don't stop annoying me. Other than that I can't think of any other quotes of mine. Most of the time I steal other people's quotes or "jack them" as my best friend says. :p

One of my quotes that I use a lot is:

    "You are the perfect you."

which follows my other belief, "I am flawed and therefore I am perfect,"

    -----

"I like to say people carry their best qualities on their back. People cannot see beside them, so when they look in the mirror all they see is the roots. These roots symbolize all that they see bad about themselves, but they don't see behind them the beautiful flower blooming and budding."

    ---

Yes, these were all created by me.

I always say that quoting oneself is a gauche act displaying both extreme arrogance and self-delusion.

REMINDER: This is a thread about YOUR OWN quotable lines. If it embarasses you to point out something you came up with, it's fine to sit back and watch. But don't hijack the thread with random quotes from other people.

that's close to one of mine that used to drive folks up the wall when i would counter the accusation, 'oh, you think you're so perfect!' with a smirk and, 'actually, i'm so perfect, i know i'm not!' ;-)

    * in life one must learn to distill ideals from dreams and practicality from ideals

    * don't just go out, be outgoing

    * it is ironic how often the term "inhumane" is used by humans to describe humans doing very human things

It is said anticipation evokes happiness; so I say, look forward to every tomorrow.
