If you could live anywhere on Earth...

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Justin Ladobruk, Jul 1, 2013.

...where would you be? Why?

Please keep the answers realistic! No 'under the sea' domes until someone actually builds one.

I'd live in Israel. I have a large family there and a historical connection to the land. When I visited, I thought it was the most beautiful and diverse place I had ever seen (this coming from a Canadian). When I visited the Kotel (wailing wall), I actually felt HaShem's physical presence for the first time in my life. It was a life altering experience.

Either in France, my ancestral homeland, or out west. Though I like too many varied environments to pick just one. I'd honestly want three or four "homes"...and spend seasons and time in each.

Hard to complain about Scotland, where I now live, but I think my favourite place I've ever been is Nova Scotia. That's where I'd head, if Scotland was no longer available. NS fits me, somehow. The kind of person I am, the things I like to do, the way I think. It's very 'me.'

I used to love Michigan, my home state, but so much has changed there. Love the Great Lakes, but I don't know if I'd be happy living there again.

I once got stoned in Israel...

I live in France and can't wait to get to the States - only 6 weeks to go!

If I had unlimited wealth I'd buy a loft in New York and hang out in the village, work in an Irish bar and generally cruise around.

I'd go for New York, but my husband is more of a country mouse and would rather be in Provence....if we could summer in France and winter in the US that would be grand :p

Some coastal city in California, where the weather is always nice. Santa Barbara perhaps?

Everyone wants to be somewhere else. I wouldn't want to work in France, and have relatives who have spent YEARS trying to come here, to no avail. I do like the parts where my family is from though. Picturesque and fun to visit for a while.

Do I need to learn to misspell when I get there? There are so many different spellings will I get away with Brit English?

I live on three acres of tropical mountainside, one acre of which (the bottom acre) is under forest with a river. I already live where I wanna' live. ;)

Don't worry, many Americans can't spell, either way.

You should be fine.

Either Italy or the Highlands of Scotland. I used to live there, and I miss the place dearly.

This would totally be my second choice.

I'll trade you a deed to your land for some coffee. :D

I'm sorry, chap. Would you prefer neighbours, then?

Thank you for this. :) Just popped this into one of the interpreter forums where I hang out. My pals there will love it. :D The ones who already find me to be a bit too cavalier, well... they can sod off. ;)

I love Eddie Izzard and haven't seen that vid in a while. He's the master of pretending to make it up as he goes along - even looking at him makes me laugh - thanks for the giggle Garball

What did you do to earn such a brutal punishment? It's amazing you survived.

Chicago, in the city, right on the lake. Most beautiful city, wonderful people, incredible food. There are lots of other places I'd like to visit frequently, but as a home base, Chicago can't be beat.

Best country in the world mate. The one I already live in!

I'd probably relocate to Tasmania though, I live in the wrong state.

the greek island of mykonos, where i've been several times and always felt 'at home'...
or
the mediterranean island of gozo that i visited once, which is the last place where women were in charge [c. 7,000bc] and life was peaceful, as weapons and male god figures/phallic symbols have been unearthed only in 'layers' after that period...

when in both places i felt i 'belonged' there, found the people to be happy and friendly in nature, the lifestyle simple and akin to my own minimal one...

I've been to some great regions in the U.S. over the years, such as Florida, the Mid-Atlantic states, New York City, and other places. But while I like those places, I haven't been to an area that I think would be better for me than Maine. So for now, I'll stay put right here in Maine.

Vermont, USA, because the nature is awesome, it's not over-populated (never been a city boy even though I've lived in cities all my life), houses and land are cheap, and, as long as you're a citizen, you don't even need a CCW permit to legally carry concealed firearms for self-defense (and there are no ridiculous magazine capacity limits).

Victoria, British Columbia. I lived there for five and a half years. If there's a better place on Earth for me, I haven't seen it. And I've seen Sydney.

Or Salt Spring Island, also in BC. My mother lived there for eighteen years and I love the place.

Or Stoney Lake in Ontario. My family has had a cottage there for as long as I've been alive, and it's more beautiful every time I go there.

Right now I'm in Los Angeles. This place sucks.
