    Howdy

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by catchkatch, Sep 5, 2012.

    Hi, guys.

I'm catchkatch, one of the newest noobs on the site.

I'm here because I'm an aspiring novelist and would love some feedback and help as I try to actually finish one of my stories and make it novel standard. I'm planning to enter the NaNoWriMo this year, too, which is both terrifying and inspiring. My aim is to have a cohesive novel by the end of the year.

I've been writing on and off since I was about 11, and actually wrote two complete novels when I was 12 and 14, but since then I've not quite managed to FINISH a story (because of a busy life, general laziness, you name it). So I thought I'd toughen up and actually get something down, as the first step towards getting published. I also love editing and giving feedback, so I'm just as happy to give as to get.

I also signed up to this forum because I'm interested in online writing communities. I'm currently an intern at an Australian company that organises local writing events for aspiring writers, and one of the things I do is moderate an online 'writing race', where people get together in a forum like this and write together, posting prose and giving feedback. It's the first time I've come across this kind of online community, and I'm really interested to learn more about how it works. So, please take care of me~!

    CURRENT PROJECT

    SYNOPSIS-

Conrad, a doctor in his 40s, suffers a near death experience as a child and ever since has had Death--who takes the form of a quiet and inscrutable man Conrad calls Ed--watching over his every step, like a shadow. Tragedy seems to follow him wherever he goes, but Conrad also has the uncanny ability to stave off death and save lives. Taking a position in a small town hospital in South Australia, Conrad meets Rose, a beautiful young teacher with an equally dark past, when her student attempts suicide and Conrad saves his life. The two take rare solace in each other, and for once Conrad's life gains some meaning. But with Conrad as a catalyst for misfortune, will Rose be the one to pay the price?

GENRE- Dark urban fantasy, romance, tragedy

LENGTH- about 4,000 words, plus a bunch of research

    PROGRESS- like 10%

    Welcome to Writing Forums, catchkatch!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
