    Another Boring Introduction Thread

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Vercetti, Dec 23, 2007.

Hey! My name is Vercetti and I suffer from Writer's Block. Most people just call me V on other forums, so that's fine.

Anyways, I'm 16 and I'm American. I'm a poker player and I've been writing for about 5 years now, but I really just started to consider myself a serious writer about a year and a half ago.

I've written a lot of short stories and a few (incomplete) novels, but prose has always been my strong point rather than poetry. I write a lot of stories about crime and such because it interests me, and in doing so I have earned the nickname "The Crime Writer" by some of my other writing friends. You should also know my stories are usually dark and deep; it's just my style.

If you haven't already noticed, I'm an extremely sarcastic person, so I hope no one takes anything I say to offense.

I guess that's that. Perhaps I should look around the place like a good little newbie. Glad to be aboard with some people who share a similar interest. :)

    Thanks.

So uh... how many posts do I need to get before I get to drop the "junior member" title?

Welcome to WF.org, Vercetti. Must say, funky sounding name! And I believe you'll become a member at around 20-50 posts. And a Senior member at 100. It's better you rely on someone else's knowledge though, but I'm sure this is how it should be.

Here's a basic welcome from all of us. It should be obvious, but in case it isn't, let me explain. The Writing Problems Area is exclusively where opinions on different ways to write, blockages in writing styles and similar problems can be discussed. In the Review Room, you can get critical appreciation and/or analysis of your written material. Behold, you must first review two pieces of writing before posting your own. This is ensure the pieces are evaluated to the most. Other than this, we have Writing Cotnests, weekly and monthly, where you can submit your writing. We also have Word games, Book Discussion and so on, classified under Community interaction. It may interest you if you're just hanging around.

adamant has been kind enough to put many of the things I have mentioned or missed out on in one comprehensive place. If you want to check it out, see the Newbie Packets:
    Noobie Packets! - Writing Forums

Enjoy it here, and don't feel shy to ask for help. We are all here to teach and learn in a mutual environment. And we hope you can do the same.

    Regards and Best Wishes!

I think it's 50 posts before you go up to Member...

I'm not a reliable source though, as my mind is hyped up on coffee most of the time...

Review two pieces of writing before posting my own?

I can do that. I'm a generally fair person and I've always believed it to be a wee bit ****ed up to come barging in posting everything you have without taking the time to appreciate other writers' works, so I like this rule. Shouldn't be a problem for me. :)

    Welcome to the site!

It's 30 posts for Member status and 100 for Senior Member status. I'm relatively certain that's accurate.

Hello Vercetti, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

There are two lkinds of writers: those all too familiar with writer's block, and those who haven't been writing very long.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room Forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just bulletin boards for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
