Reasonable Asking Salary for a Small Company?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by S-wo, Feb 8, 2012.

So I'm applying for a freelance writing job for an independent game company and they asked for me to post a desired salary rate. I was wondering what's considered reasonable for a small studio like this? I don't want to put down anything to low or hurt my chances and ask for something incredibly high. I know I should definitely put something at least a little above my state's minimum wage.

Google didn't give me any straight answers.

then you need to do more creative googling... the answer is out there!

if you're applying for a salaried position, it wouldn't be freelancing, so maybe you aren't googling for the right info and need to search for job openings in the game industry, not freelancing fees...

I usually dodge the question and respond with something like "dependent upon total compensation package"

This means you will factor in telecommuting, vacation, health benefits, etc into your "salary" and aren't as concerned about a particular number.
