    Great news, DMF!

Now a new level of fun begins...working with the editors, getting blurbs, and eventually marketing and signings!--and writing your next novel too!

Keep us updated, especially as to when it's available.

i hate to throw cold water on your happy news, but this publisher has a 'not recommended' warning on preditors & editors... did you know that and want to go with them anyway?

    Oh wow, that's terrible.

Although, the reason they gave is vague, I still would be skeptical. The only reason I would think to be worried is that they are an online distribution publisher only. If they are going to offer editing and cover services then I could see why it may be worth the rate they are offering but I'd still be weary. This is practically glorified self-publishing.

Maybe that's why they are on the warning list.

If Preditors and Editors warns against a publisher or agent, you should listen. They don't often give much detail, but they have their ear to the ground. If they give a "not reccommended" rating, they are generally right.

yup!... dave's been doing this great service for writers for a long time now and doesn't list warnings without good cause...

It appears that "kill fees" is their main source of income. I would beware of them.

'kill fees' are paid out by publishers, not to them...

so how can that be their income?

I read several articles where authors wrote of their experiences w/this publisher. They used the term kill fee, but I think they were referring to termination fee? Either way, I'm sorry for this sucky news about them.

I kinda sorta hope DMF is still reading this thread. I know it's probably a kick in the shins, but I don't want to see a fellow writer get shafted.

Yes Im still reading it. They not only deal in ebooks but print as well. They offer editing and cover art services as well. I have seen nothing but good things about this place. The only thing I seen is that if you decide to terminate your contract with them it will cost between 50-1000 dollars depending on how much time and money they put into your book. I know a few people who have published through them for a while and they are very satisfied. I will keep my gaurd up as this is my first book. I just think that the link above is wrong about them.

Anyway, my book is going to be released on September 1st

Congrats. I hope everything works out. Just curious. Was this a self submisssion or with an agent?
That, "preditors & editors" site is a good resource to have found btw.
