    I am Nothing

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Rajikai, Apr 26, 2010.

Hello all. Well I'm here cause I love writing, though I never actually finish any of my stories. I tend to write dark stuff, whose grammar sucks and so on. You guys will most likely have trouble reading what I write, but I thank you for your patience ahead of time.

As you noticed I'm a negative person. Sometimes I'm positive, and thanks to my brother, I have an overwhelming urge to always win, so please bear with me.

    Thank you for your time.

Hello Rajikai, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Why thank you, though that seems likes you copy and paste it on every new member. But still thank you for taking your time writing that for me, I will get busy reading

Eh, I think a lot of my stuff sucks too, at times, and tell myself that frequently. Insofar as writing I'm personally not one to believe that self-criticism is a bad thing. If it's one thing I've learned, if you can find something wrong with what you're doing then it means you have a chance to do it again the right way. If no one was critical of themselves and had a hard time finding mistakes we'd all need personal editors or just fail fail fail.

But hell, I could still use a personal editor!

Enjoy your stay. I'm new too. So hopefully we'll find some hope here.

    Rajikai hi!

One thing I've picked up on since I first starteed writing is that there really is no need to be negative. Even if you think your work is absolutely terrible (and trust me, I really do think mine is) you have still created your own world where absolutely ANYTHING can happen! If you want a frog to recite poetry or if you want some guy to jump headfirst from a moving plane onto a mounainside, you can make that happen! There's nothing negative about that baby!

    Enjoy the WF!

    welcome to the forum,

you know being negative and criticizing your own work, dont have to go hand in hand, people can find a hundred ways for your work to improve, and that doesn't mean that it is bad.

Judging your work, and finding ways it can improve, is not necessarily the same, it sounds like it is, but it's not, at least in my opinion

Be proud of all you do, and enjoy it, and don't take any criticism personal, because they are just opinions, and you can be open and get the best out of them
