Help how do i describe this would rock jutting out of the sea work ? I have been happily calling it a stack but only one of my readers knows what one is so need to change it- I can't get past the fact it is called a stack lol I need to smack a bird into the side of it and it's important it isn't a cliff.
It looks like a slice was taken out of the nearby cliff. Different layers of rocked are 'stacked' on top of one another to form that slice.
Sliced out piece of towering rock? A cliff slice surrounded by water? A sliced out piece of cliff eroded by the sea, forming a separated stack of rock?
How about? The bird sees his opportunity as he and his opponent move closer to a large column of rock, located further out to sea ? Awful lot of words to replace stack lol
I would interpret stack as a pile of a number of discrete items, although I have heard about "chimney stack" A giant rocky finger protruding from the sea ?

Well, it's a ... stack! Perhaps you could post the sentence you have in mind so that we can better judge whether or not it's clear what is meant. Otherwise I would describe it as a column of rock isolated by erosion. Rachel
The bird sees his opportunity as he and his oponent move closer to the stack out in the bay. Then pretty much as Lothgar described it I wish lol the bird is a peacock and his opponent a Great Skua so basically the peacock uses his body to smash the Great Skua into the rock.
