I got Stephenie Meyer lol, and I have never read her books , so I read the first chapter of twilight online and actually it's true it looks like something I could have written haha.
Cory Doctorow... I've never heard of him. Then I got David Foster Wallace. From the sounds of things a lot of you guys are genuine older style people, while it seems like I write with a newer style. I bet most of you can tell which entry is mine most of the time if I enter a contest. I even did a third piece and got Cory Doctorow again! He must be a good writer.
He's a science fiction author and journalist, and heavily into tech issues (particularly privacy and IP):
I tried two of my short stories. It said the first one was like Arthur Clarke (nice compliment!) and the second was like Agatha Christie. I've never read her stuff, so I don't know whether that's praise or not.
How bad is it that I didn't even know that was a book? I tried it with two other passages and got Dan Brown then James Joyce. These are all from the same piece. So either I'm a very inconsistent writer or the site uses a very dodgy algorithm
I think it was her only novel, and it catapulted her to stardom. It's amazing to look back at the story of that book and movie, and all the hype and buzz particularly around the latter in a pre-digital age. She was hit by a car and killed while crossing the street shortly after the 20th anniversary of the movie, I believe.
Stephen King, based on my posts here. Fairly comfortable with that, although I do have a sudden urge to write about a writer who writes writers.
Put in an excerpt from a novella I'm working on. It says I write like Cory Doctorow. Never heard of him before.
I just tried the first chapter of my novel, and it said I write like Margaret Atwood. I guess that's good!
From what i looked up, he is. He's been nominated for many Awards and won a few. He writes science fiction that commonly deal with digital files management and post-scarcity economics. I never heard of him before i saw this post, it's nice to know there's another great writer out there!
My opening paragraphs got me William Gibson. I've never read any of his work so I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I'm definitely not writing anything remotely cyberpunk. A page further in got me David Foster Wallace which I guess is a good thing. At least I'm not getting E.L James
Sticking in different sections of my work I got: 2 Anne Rice 1 Oscar Wilde 1 Leo Tolstoy 1 Douglas Adams Apparently my writing is all over the place.
For fun I did my entire book. One chapter at a time. My results of a 35 chapter book. 1. Douglas Adams 2. Stephen King 3. William Gibson 4. Stephen King 5. Stephen King 6. Lewis Carroll 7. Stephen King 8. Stephen King 9. Margaret Atwood 10. Stephen King 11. Mark Twain 12. Mark Twain 13. Mark Twain 14. Stephen King 15. Stephen King 16. Mark Twain 17. Stephen King 18. Stephen King 19. Stephen King 20. Stephen King 21. Stephan King 22. Stephan King 23. Dan Brown 24. Stephan King 25. Stephan King 26. Stephan King 27. Stephan King 28. Stephan King 29. Stephan King 30. Stephan King 31. J. R. R. Tolkien 32. Jane Austen 33. J.D.Salinger 34. Cory Doctorow 35. Stephan King One thing I find funny on reflection. Is every chapter that got marked Twain features a character in no other chapters. lol
Well, I'm still chuckling a bit. I put in four lengthy samples from my novel. I apparently write like Jack London (twice), Charles Dickens, and ...wait for it ...Kurt Vonnegut. And a fifth sample churned out Chuck Palahnuik. Umm. I think maybe I just write like me? And definitely not in a female style. I'll try one more from my female's POV....back in a mo.... Okay, I did two more samples (long ones) from my female POV. And I got Anne Rice and another Jack London. So three out of six are Jack London? And I don't have any dogs in the stories, or irascible sea captains? What ARE they looking for? I suspect, from the speed of the analysis, they just look for particular words.
