The Starshade’s Legacy: Last of the Imirri

Welcome. Welcome to Euthiria. This is a land of mysterious origins and a shadowed past. None know for sure how it began, or how it will end, but they do know that its inhabitants may soon be extinct. War and famine have destroyed the once lush forests and plains that dot Euthiria’s landscape, and a powerful phenomenon has cloaked it in seemingly eternal winter for the last two hundred years. Bare mountains spear the cloud-covered skies with their stone points, and once dense forests now stand with their bare branches grasping the air, some simply standing as nothing more than poles with the scars of branches lost and still remembered. Animals are few and far between, depending on what little they can find for sustenance such as the hardy mosses that all compete for in order to survive. This is a land where mankind is at war with both the elements and themselves, and doom is always one day away, waiting in the shadows to take another life to oblivion.

Hello, I am your guide to finding this place should you dare tread beneath this sky. Though I cannot tell you what I am at the moment, I can give you much needed information and assistance about Euthiria. Let’s begin with the races that can be found:

    The Races of Euthiria
(Important things to know before character creation)

The Humans – A strong, resilient people who you may be familiar with. Currently, they are only found in isolated pockets, with the largest population being those poor denizens who have been taken as slaves by the Shifters. Topping at six feet and rarely any higher, humans can vary greatly in appearances except for the fact that they almost always have eyes of earthen tones such as brown, grey, or silver. They are adept at defending themselves with weapons of their own making, such as swords, bows, or any other myriad of tools. The humans are born without an innate sense for either type of spirit.

Humans have the highest physical defense of all race. They have access to weapons such as swords, bows, and many other kinds that can wound both Shifter and Imirri gravely should they be used correctly. They can attack twice per post in battle but must defend the next post in order to rebuild their strength. They are also vulnerable to being mentally controlled by a Shifter should they make eye-contact.

The Shifters– A terrifying race that has plagued Euthiria since the beginning of time. Inspiring the legends of werewolves, the Shifters live in a single Pack in a large fortress carved out of the side of a mountain along Euthiria’s jagged coast. They resemble humans in appearance and height but for their scar-clad torsos, feral yellow eyes, and the fact that they are only male. Often violent but united under one leader and his heirs, the Shifters have been known to raid human villages and take many people as slaves, killing those who they do not capture. This race is termed the “nightmare” of Euthiria, and is feared for its brutality. They can shape-shift into their wolf form, often becoming over five feet tall at the shoulder, and are ranked by their pelt color and build.

Shifters have the highest physical attack of all races. Can shift into their wolf form and use their lethal fangs and claws to fight as well as their ability to control a human should they make eye-contact. On the off chance that one has the ability to utilize dark spirits, their spiritual attack is doubled against Imirri but their speed is lessened greatly –making them more vulnerable to physical attacks. Shifters can attack twice per post unless slowed down by a spiritual attack from an Imirri, where they can only attack once per post.

The Imirri (Notice: Your Character will not know of its true race until a later time, so you must have your character assume that they are ordinary humans) – A race that is believed to have died out during the wars between the humans and the Shifters. Having sided with the humans against the nightmare race, these people were exceptionally fair looking and had startling gemstone-colored eyes. They can be mistaken for ordinary humans though, and it is rumored that the Imirri blood still flows through the veins of some. They had once defended and healed those who had fought in the wars, using their talents to control light spirits, weather, pressure, and light. This race is also the source of the Starshade –a legendary woman that has been prophesied to be reborn over and over again until the Shifters are completely destroyed. It is with her that hope still has a handhold for those who believe the tales.

Imirri have the highest spiritual attack of all the races. They can call forth their guardian spirit to help them along with using their talents over weather, pressure, and light to fight. They are immune to the Shifter’s mental control should they make eye-contact. They have the lowest physical defense, and must be protected by humans in fights. They can use a call once per post and can assist humans should they become possessed by a Shifter by entering the human’s mind as well to attack the Shifter to blame. They can attack only once due to the energy it takes to use calls, but if they have a weapon of some sort they can also attack with that as well, but at greater risk of being injured.

As for the rules of combat, these are the big ones:

    - No god-moding
    - No harassing other players verbally
    - GM’s word is law
    - No excessive cussing (I do not care if you like to express yourself this isn’t a contest to see who can offend who the most.)
    - Please keep your templates and comments/questions in the discussion thread. I will be happy to clarify on anything that seems confusing.
    - Please be active in this game. I would like to avoid killing off characters.

Call types and what they are used for
    (Important for Imirri)

Now, before you become confused as to how calls work, let me explain just what they are. Calls work similar to spells in other RPG’s, but can bring forth only two results at the moment. If you choose the Imirri as your race, then this section will be very important to your understanding of just what you can do with calls. Here are some short summaries of the four types and what they can do:

Spirit – You call forth a denizen of the Ether to assist you in battle (usually this is your guardian. Guardians will be discussed later on). They cannot attack anyone physically, but can fight with you as you attack someone spiritually (such as if you are helping a friend against a Shifter’s mental control). This call taxes the user the most out of all call types, so it cannot be used frequently, but it does drain you slowly so you can avoid losing all of your energy if you use it only in quick bursts.

Weather – The easiest call type to use- this often effects wind or water patterns in small areas (Example: creating ice or hampering an opponent’s movements with a concentrated gust of wind. Combine both and you have a fairly damaging weapon).

Light – The second easiest call type and the most basic. It is often only used for practical reasons but can blind opponents. A strange fact about this call is that minor healings can be done using it.

Pressure – The second hardest of all call types, and often intermingled with the weather type. If you charge enough energy, you can cause fairly large explosions of blinding light and force, but be warned: this type drains the user of almost all energy at one time unlike the gradual draining caused by using Spirit!

    Shifter Ranks
    (Important for Shifters)

There are several ranks for Shifters depending on their build and pelt color, so your character appearance does actually play a part to what kind of fighter you are expected to be, but then you can also be a “Rogue” Shifter and fight any way you like. You will run the risk of being attacked by your own kind though due to the fact that you do not belong to the Pack. There are several ranks above you, but those are not available until later. These are the three you can choose from currently though ordered from easiest to hardest:

Guard- The protectors of the Fortress and its territory and ranked above Raider and Scout. They rarely venture outside the grounds but are tough, brutal fighters that often have dull grey and sometimes black pelts. They have a variety of appearances in human form but are stocky, muscular, and shorter than most Shifters when in wolf form. They are also the heaviest –an asset should they be in windy areas

Raider- The fighters of the Fortress and the most feared members of the Pack in the outside world and are ranked above Scout. Often lean, these Shifters are usually a dark to light brown and have larger claws for paw-to-paw fighting. They are faster than guards and lighter, but that also means they can be blown back by a weather attack a bit more easily.

Scout- Often looked down upon by other Shifters; scouts are the lowest rank and use their incredible speed to relay messages. This speed can be transferred to fights with lower physical attack but an added attack chance. They are often a red-ish color but can be brown like Raiders, and have the longest legs of all for larger strides. They are very light and have short fur, making them vulnerable to most cold-weather attacks.

All Shifters are vulnerable to blades as they do not wear armor!

    Humans and Special-Type Weapons
    (Don’t count them out!)

Humans may seem the weakest compared to the other two races, but with their high physical defense and weapons, they can even be dangerous to a group of Shifters if they have an Imirri to assist them. Sometimes you can obtain special weapons that allow you access to one call-type ability similar to the Imirri’s powers, and if you choose to you can begin with one –though you can only hold one at any one time. Here are some you can choose from:

Gemstone sword- a sword that has a blade made of a violet gemstone that glows with the user’s heartbeat. Adds attack damage and can be used to heal others to save them from mortal wounds (though they will be put out of the fight and must be defended form further harm).

Gemstone dagger- a dagger made of a violet gemstone that glows with the user’s heartbeat. Can save your character from being killed during battle (that does not mean they are immortal!) and teleports them a safe distance away (this ability can only be used once per battle).

Gemstone ring- a ring made of a violet gemstone that glows with the user’s heartbeat. Can open rifts to the Ether realm for a split second to swallow up enemies that are running at you, though it must have time to recharge and can only be used once per fight.

Gemstone necklace- a necklace with a violet gemstone clasped to it that glows with the user’s heartbeat. Allows the user insight to someone’s emotions outside of battle and gives them access to calling their guardian spirit to assist them in small ways in fights (examples: added speed or strength).

    Guardians
(For Imirri or Humans who possess the gemstone necklace)

Imirri naturally can tap into calling their guardian in battle, whereas a human must have a tool to assist them –namely the gemstone necklace. Guardians come in all varieties, and are based on animals in appearance. Depending on the main assets to your guardian, they may be able to grant your character booted abilities when competing against the naturally faster and stronger Shifters.

Speed Asset- Guardian can increase speed for a short time.

    Power Asset-
Guardian can increase strength for a short time.

Life Asset- Guardian can prevent blood loss for a short time.

Defense Asset- Guardian can increase sight range for a short time.

    Character Creation
(Remember: PM me your character ideas first for approval!)

Abilities for Imirri are divided into calls (similar to “spells”), and each character created has a special type of template depending on their race. Here are some examples, but you are free to add any other information if you’d like:

    Now to begin the Story!

Before you go, I would like to thank you if you have read all of this and have decided to join the Starshade’s Legacy. This is a legend that has many before it, and still many more to see before this world shall fade into the mists of Euthiria again. But there is one more thing I must impart of you before you go, and that is where you will begin should you be Shifter, Human, or Imirri. This world is a vast place, and you must know where you are or else risk being lost:

Shifters Begin at: a large Fortress where slaves cater to your every need and you are protected from the harsh winter. Cliffs drop into an ocean to the west of your home, and mountains flank your east, making attack only available to the heavily-guarded front gates.

Humans/Imirri Begin at: a small village in a valley surrounded by dense forests and mountains. A river cuts through one side, and you are expected to have survived only by your own strength at times. Hunger is a constant, and food is rare. Usually you will depend on edible mosses and what few animals you can catch.

Again, thank you if you even only glimpse at this but decide to read along until a later time if you’d like to join.
And for those of you who have joined and will walk along the path of the Starshade, welcome.
    Welcome to Euthiria.

The girl dodged through the trees, blowing repeatedly on a small flute that sent high, piercing notes through the forest. Snow crunched beneath her heels, and when she paused for breath next to an elm she pulled her shawl tighter about her shoulders, her breath coming in dense clouds.

Where is he? she wondered, and was about to blow on the flute again when another answered, its song echoing off of the branches. A tired smile cma eot her face and she trotted in the direction the sound had come from, and soon she came across a young man with an emaciated doe slung over one shoulder, a bow tied to his back.

"You got one!" she gasped, and the boy laughed, his silver eyes sparkling.

"Yeah, took quite a while though. They're getting harder to track." he responded, a worried look momentarilly crossing his eyes as he looked over the girl when she picked up her load of firewood.

"Let's go." she said, turning to head out of the forest along a thin trail that only they had ever traveled besides the occasional animal. Something began to glow at her collarbone, and she paused as the boy passed her up when the trees came to an end to reveal a small valley with scattered buildings huddled at the bank of a frozen river.

"You coming?" he asked, and the girl shook her head, "I'll just be a moment." The boy shrugged and carried on.

The girl set down her firewood and picked up a small gemstone on her necklace as it glowed like a heartbeat, the jewel a dark violet like her eyes.

Moss . . . a small voice whispered in her mind. She looked puzzled for a moment, then ran after the boy, kicking up snow. Moss . . .

They arrived at the village not long after, making their way among the streets as people either went out hunting, to gather wood, or simply played ball. The girl stayed in the boy's shadow, eying the others nervously.

"We're nearly there Keitsu, don't worry." the boy murmured reassuringly, reaching back to rub the girl's head with a calloused hand. She smiled weakly at him.

    "I know Ardoway -they're not Shifters . . ."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Batos; The Fortress

Loud roars shattered the silence in the dark corridors.

Snarling at each other, two massive wolves lunged and blood spattered the stone floors. Crimson streaked the pure white fur of one Shifter as he batted at the muzzle of another one -a small, black Shifter who was emaciated to a degree that was alarming.

"Give up . . ." the white wolf panted as they paused, a torch falling from its holder to scatter sparks over the floor.

"Like i would dream of it!" the other spat, his yellow eyes blazing as they locked with the other's ice blue ones.

They were about to go at it again when a voice resembling fetid meat spoke up from a shadowed corner of the hall:

"Boys, boys! Though i would enjoy seeing how this would play out I must insist that you halt this venture until a later time." the man said as he stepped out into the light, his sulfur eyes shimmering with the glow cast by the embers of the fallen torch. A scar stretched from his upper lip to his temple, and he was immediately recognizable as Arrcafah, Lord of the Shifters.

"Yes, Father." both wolves mumbled and shifted into their human forms -the black wolf turning into a thin boy with lank black hair and a scarred neck, the white wolf shifting into a taller, stronger version of the first but with ice-blue eyes and a shoulder that looked as if it had been clawed by an animal. Both were princes of the Fortress -the yellow eyed one known as Bibindoe, and the blue-eyed one as Batos.

"Good -there is a meeting to be held in the Throne room that i must attend, I expect you to be there soon." the Alpha said lowly before turning to walk down the hall.

Rafael looked up from his handiwork as Ardoway and Keitsu walked back into the settlement. He quickly returned his gaze to the wooden spike he was making to avoid eye contact. Just walk up, you need the food, they need the arrows. Don't be so pathetic Rafael thought to himself. With a sigh he dropped his work and walked up to the two kids. He knew their names but had rarely talked to them.

"Hey, how much for a slice of your hunt?" he asked as he tapped Ardoway on the shoulder.

Marklin walked down the dirt path through the center of town. The hood of his dark green cloak covered his head, riding down till his dark blue eyes were nearly concealed. He had 2large hares hanging over his shoulder. Marklin's instincts had led him right too their den. There had been at least 6 of them. 3 of them babies and one being a nursing mother. He had let those be, easily dispatching the other 2 with his hatchet which now hung on his belt.

He walked with a purpose, heading straight to the best seamstress the town had to offer. In exchange for the largest hare, he hoped to attain another jacket to stave the cold.
Marklin walked past a young man with a deer upon his shoulders and another man trying to haggle with him. A girl nearby waited paitenly, shivering in the cold as she held tightly to her small load of kindleing. Wonder if she'll be strong enough to survive the winter. Many children won't be. The weak die and the strong survive. Such is the way of this world.

"Hey, how much for a slice of your hunt?" a man asked Ardoway, and the boy's eyebrows rose in surprise.

"How about a dozen and I'll give you the flanks after my sister skins it." he replied, a half-smile quirking his lips as Keitsumah scooted closer to her brother nervously. Her violet eyes flickered for a moment and she clenched the branches in her hands more tightly as a breeze stirred her brass hair which hung down to the small of her back. The necklace she wore could be seen momentarilly, its violet gems glowing faintly, but it appeared to be a trick of the light.

"Make it ten, and ill give you a stock of my arrows with it." Rafael returned. He eyed the boy before him. Rafael considered he could take the kid and his sister out, steal the deer and be done with it. But i was not in his nature, he shivered at his own line of thinking.

"You and your sister are freezing, perhaps we can trade somewhere warm? I have a story that might interest you." Rafael said as he winked the shivering girl. A hooded man passed by, carrying two hares over his houlder. Rafael immediately saw this man was new to the settlement.

"Just a second." he said to Ardoway as he jogged after the stranger.

"What part are you from?" Rafael inquired of the stranger.

"What part are you from?" Someone said from behind him. It was the haggler. The young man was probably a few years younger than Marklin himself. He barely gave him a sideways glance and didn't even stop walking. "What does it matter to you?" His voice sounded annoyed at random question. Marklin didn't like being bothered, or questioned.

"What does it matter to you?"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, grumpy are we? Look covey, we all have troubles. You seem to come from the outside, I was hoping you could share some news." Rafael said, he no longer tried to keep up with the man. Danger could come from anywhere and in these dark times strangers were all the more dangerous, all the more unpredictable.

A man walked through the village......and after him stunned or scared faces followed. It was a shifter he was tall with, built with a good deal of slender muscle, a firm face and hair that fell in front of his wild yellow eyes. He wasn't making eye contact with anyone in fact he was keeping his head down avoiding it as much as possible. He was dressed in the style of clothing.

This man name's was Wallace....but please just call him Wally. He was now just arriving in the village...he had been wandering around other parts of the world but avoided the shifter locations at all cost.....even though he was one. Wally seemed far to occupied with what he was doing. His mouth kept moving and quivered as he watched his own boots continued move. Wally then proceeded to accidentally bump right into Marklin ad Rafael. And for the first time he looked up. "Oh sorry." He said sincerely and his eyes flashed with something akin to kindness but his facial expression remained neutral

"Shifter!" Rafael shrieked as the wolf in human clothes bumped into him. Rafael attacked the vile beast immediately, he was acting purely on instinct. He grabbed his bow and nocked an arrow to it. Ready to lift the lethal, long range weapon and shoot the shifter right in the head. This...thing, was clearly not human and Rafael hated everything that was not human. He simply stared at the would-be-shifter, ready to attack again at the slighest hint of motion

Wally cocked his head at Rafael and turned around to look behind himself. "Shifter...where?" He asked curiously. Wallace knew by blood he was a shifter but he was raised by humans and considered himself a human.....nothing else. So it was often when people called him a shifter he'd either ignore them not on purpose but because....he wasn't a shifter (in his mind), so calling him one wouldn't really get his attention and of course there are various other things that happen when he is excused of being a monster. Wally kept looking around for this shifter. "I don't see it." He said looking at Rafael's notched arrow. He was actually just in the village to....see if he could make a friend....he wasn't exactly a social butterfly, for obvious and not so obvious reasons.

Rafael was taken aback by the monster's answer. He lowered his bow to the ground. "What did you say?" Rafael said weakly. Then, realizing his own foolishness he quickly raised his bow again. "You will not deceive me monster! Is that how you take little kids for slaves huh? Give me one good reason why I shouldnt kill you right here and now?"

In truth Rafael acted a lot more brave than he felt. His opponent looked strong, then again, from this distance he coud hardly miss.

"Hey! Break it up!" Ardoway shouted, dropping the doe and leaping between the two men, "I don't know what's gotten into you -but violence in the village isn't allowed. You got a problem take it outside the walls." He looked firmly at Rafael and then back at the Shifter, his silver eyes turning hard as steel. Without the deer weighing him down the boy was surprisingly tall and powerful-looking despite the obvious lack of food during his life -looking around eighteen or nineteen years of age. A large knife stuck out of his belt and grey-fletched arrows rattled in his quiver.

"Do i need to tell Gunthran about this?" he warned them both. Gunthran was the leader of the village, and also the owner of the inn that the two children stayed at.

Well Rafael did it. He just went and used that word.....monster! "Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!" Wally began growling like an animal and his kind eyes all but vanished. They were replaced by an animal like ferocity. Wally was a nice guy and he really did hate hurting people most of all hurting his fellow humans. But whether or not he considered himself human or shifter....he still had the raw violent instincts of a shifter. Being raised human is instincts and violent nature came ahead when he was irritated or even upset in the slightest.

The fact that he was constantly being called a monster all his life didn't help either. It was like Wally suddenly became different person/"Who the hell are you calling a monster! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO AND PISS ME OFF!?" Wally roared out grinding his teeth. "DIE....DIE...DIE!!!!" He shouted furiously as he started throwing fast at punches Rafael. It was if he was completely oblivious to the arrow at this point not caring if he was shot and even went around Adroway. He wasn't in control of his body at the moment his instincts were. It should be noted Wally himself was wolf form or not was one physically dangerous dude. In fact in rages his punch power can even surpass that of other shifters by a great deal.

The little girl suddenly darted out from behind Ardoway and tackled Wally, her tiny body allowing her to avoid his wild fists but she was just heavy enough to lay him flat on his back. Her arms were wrapped around his neck and she was shaking.

Ardoway's eyes widened, "Keitsumah!?" he gulped and ran over, trying to pick her up and off of the Shifter but she growled at him and he jumped back.

"Not bad. Not mean like others." she mumbled with a surprisingly husky voice.

    Batos; The Fortress

The three Shifters entered the throne room via two massive doors blackened with tar, a crimson carpet leading them towards dais with three pillows at its peak.

Arrcafah sat down in the center one, with Batos at his right and Bibindoe at his left. Assorted Generals, Captains, and many other ranked Shifters bustled about on either side of the massive room sided by basalt columns, the torches casting a red glow over their scarred features. Yellow eyes overwhelmed the one Shifter with ice-blue eyes, the Prince of Shifters, Batos.

"Let's begin. What repairs are needed to be made to the east wall?" Arrcafah stated, his voice booming through the chamber.

    Marklin

    "Shifter!"

Marklin dropped the hares and spun around, hatchet in hand the moment the cry of warning hit his ears. He prepared to attack but the creature seemed confused. Until the haggler called it a monster, then it went beserk. It threw punch after punch at the man. While the Shifter was distracted by the man he was attacking, Marklin moved to the back of him and swung the hatchet towards the creature's head.
As much as he wanted to kill it, he'd heard the kid's warning about angering the village leader, so he swung the hatchet, wood side down. If it hit, it would simply knock the shifter out, rather than killing it. Though in his opinion, all Shifter's deserved death.

Wally started breathing slower once he was tackled. His face softened at the sight of Keitsumah. "Hi." He said trying to smile. He wasn't really good at smiling simply because he never did it so it sort of came out butchered. "I'm not a shifter...I'm a human." He said starting to frown. Wally hated himself when he got angry. He just wanted to live a nice life as a human but everyone was always calling him names and his anger issues tended to drive a good deal of possible friends away. "Thanks for stopping me little one." He said patting her head.

"I'm sorry for my outburst I ha-" WHAM! Marklin's axe smashed into Wallace's head. But it didn't knock him out. Instead Wally took the blow he looked dazed for a moment but then shook his head. Red ooze began dripping from his head and getting stuck in his hair. Anger rising again its at 20 percent (very much irritated) the pain is what was causing his temper to flare again but he kept his face stoic. "Don't do that again sir....please." He said as polite as he possibly could holding his bloody head.

Rafael brushed the dirt and leaves off his clothes as he stared at the agressive human-shifter. The monster had charged so quickly that he hadn't let go of his arrow in time. He walked up to a nearby tree and pulled the arrow out.

"have it your way Ardie." Rafael said "lets take him to Gunthar."

    A song with the haunting melody drifted through the hills into the village. From the road, around a bend, there came walking a man. He was singing;

    Walk by wind,
    call by spirit.
    Come by now
    the road I take.

    Sift through days,
    dream through nights.
    Pray for heavens
    grace to alight.

    Come my wind,

    Come my wind.

    Walk with me for awhile.

    Walk with me for awhile.

His song ended as he rounded the bend on the road and saw the village. He walked forward, his heavy fur cloak draped over him. There was a feather in his long black hair, and his hawk like eyes took in everything. He carried a rugged looking long bow, and had pelts slung over his shoulder. On his back was a small leather bag, filled with the pelts of smaller animals.

He walked through the center of the small village, ignoring the happenings around him. Apparently there was a Shifter, but the man, Artanis was his name, held nothing against the Shifters. He would kill them in his own defense, but they had never done anything to him like what had been done by his fellow man. No, he could not hate them any more than he hated humans. He cared little for what others did, he lived for himself, basking in his freedom, free as the wind.

Moving to the side, he found an empty stop in the town center, and sat down at a bench. Then spread some of the pelts he had out next to him, then just sat there waiting for someone to take notice of him and ask why he was here. When they did, he would say that he was but a humble hunter, a wanderer of the frozen wilds, here to sell the pelts and spoils of his journeys in exchange for food and gold. Then when he had sold or bartered away all he had, he would move on again. That was his way, he never stopped, never stopped walking. Walking with the wind.

"Excuse me, Miss." a cloaked girl said as she bumped shoulders with a woman in the town center. With the quickness of a hare, she slid her hand into the woman's purse and cold metal hit her fingertips. The woman only gave her a disgusted look and continued on with no accusation. Beneath her hood, Leila grinned, weighing the coins in her hand. Enough for a good slice of meat. Maybe a whole animal.

She quickly pocketed it within her belt to move on to her next destination, weapons. Her knife was getting blunt and it was high time for a new one. This naive village seemed to be the perfect place to get one too. As she walked to the weaponry, she grabbed a spiced fruit off a cart, sliding it into her cloak. As she walked away, her quick eyes caught sight of another girl repeating her action, displaying no stealth whatsoever.

"Sir!" Leila called over to the keeper of the tent. She pointed her slender finger at the girl, mouthed thief, and went on her way. Girl had no business stealing her stuff.

As she rounded the corner, a yell reached her ears. A loud one. Distractions, oh how I love them. Leila thought. Distractions provided the perfect escape to every situation. She lived because of distractions. Another smile passed over her lips as she juggled the fruit in one hand and took a bite. As she chewed, she took notice of a man sitting on a bench. Leila slowed to a stop and scanned him from head to toe, wondering what could possibly be of worth on an older man.

"Good day to you, Sir." Leila said as she passed him slowly.

"It's Ardoway, and Gunthran will not be very pleased about this." the boy said, scooping up the Shifter beneath the shoulders to drag him into the inn with Keitsumah carrying the deer close behind.

An elderly man with a beared face and grey eyes looked up from the counter he was cleaning when the door creaked open. "Ay, Ardoway what on-" he paused and his eyes widened as he saw the man the boy had laid on one of the tables, "What is goin' on 'ere?" The old man had an accent from another place, and he quickly moved over from the counter to take the deer Keitsu had held out to him.

"There was a bit of a fight, but he seems alright." Ardoway said, turning to Gunthran, "He's a rogue Shifter i think -and probably doesn't know anything about his kind if he didn't react to the smell of my blood." a he said this he pulled his tunic off to reveal an abdomen that was pockmarketed with bruises, one of them bleeding sluggishly. Keitsumah darted around the room silently, picking up stray rags here or there until she had a small pile. Laying them next to Wally's head, she bandaged the Shifter's wound and then started sewing together a larger peice of cloth to wrap around her brother's stomach. Using a bone needle and sinews taken from previous kills Ardoway had made, she swed the rags together with a master's hand.

"Fights shoul' be kept outside the village please -we already have enough problems without humans turnin' agains' one 'nother." the elder said, his mouth pinched as he stabbed the base of the deer's neck through a hook in the wall to dry. After the two men had been tended to, Keitsu glided like a ghost between people to get a knife from her brother's belt and stuck the blade in a stove in the corner of the room to heat. Tossing her kindling in as well, the girl dodged the sparks that flew out then shut the grate.

"Thank you very much." Wally said poking at his bandaged head. He wasn't used to being treated to......it made him happy. He wasn't really sure to express that happiness so he just said "thanks." The shifter stood up and stretched. "Oh and with all due respect I'm a human not a shifter so I'd like it very much if you just called me a human." He said politely. Wally figured to Keitsumah and Arodway. Yes Wally was certainly an odd case. "I just have some trouble controlling my anger is all." Wally began to frown. "So please forgive me."

    "So please forgive me."

Rafael had a hard time deciding what he thought of Wallace. The rogue shifter seemed nice and well mannered but, it was exactly that which put Rafael on edge. He couldn't help but think black and white. There were humans and there were shifters, according to Rafael there was nothing in between. He shrugged the heavy thoughts of and took a seat in the inn, near the fire, warming his hands.'

"Is he on the menu tonight?" Rafael asked from Keitsumah, pointing at the deer that was hanging out to dry. "I could help reinforce the wall with the new spikes I made, I already have two dozen ready."

It was custom that the villagers traded services and goods with each other. Money was a rarity, and frankly, Rafael had never seen a coin. Legen had it that the shifters had large treasurerooms but Rafael doubted it.

    Marklin

Marklin picked up the hares off the dirt and slung them over his shoulder, grumbeling angerly that he hadn't been allowed to kill the Shifter. Even if it was "different." Ignorant children. He thought as they walked off to tend the creature's wounds.

Half-an-hour later he was sitting by a makeshift tent with a new coat and his kill roasting over a small fire. As he had expected, the seamstress had been eager to give him one of her recently sown skin coats in exchange for the hare. He smiled inwardly at the memory of her excited look when she heard his offer of trade.

As the meal cooked Marklin looked up, his dark blue eyes scanning the village. The people here were kind and relativly happy. He wondered if they had ever suffered from a Shifter attack. If they had, perhaps they would be more wary of allowing such creatures in thier Village. They didn't discriminate; old, young, weak, strong. They took who they wanted when they wanted. And too many humans were too weak or frightened to resist. But not him. Never again. Never would a Shifter take him or someone near him while he had breath in his body.
