“Commencing Mission,” a dark voice said as he broke out of thought. He scanned the area as the wind rustled through the trees. The guards passed by the target’s room as he sat perched under the protection of the night. He swiftly leaped from the trees to atop the roof as the guard passed to check the rest of the castle. Soundlessly he sprinted across the roof and slid down to the room of the target. Jumping down he checked left and right making sure the lanterns of the guards were disappearing into the night. A boy slept as he slid opens the door to see the target. He crept quietly till he was over the boy who was sleeping angelically. Under his mask he was smiling a sadistic smile. He unsheathed his short blade then swiftly cut through the boy’s neck like butter. No scream just blood soaking into the sheets of his bed. Grabbing hold of the hair of the boy he ripped off the head and carried it to the door. He let go of it in the middle of the walk way and headed back across the roof back to his perch. A castle maid was happily gathering clothes as she walked on the walk way. He grinned again as the maid let out a screech that could be heard for miles. She stared at the head as it laid there. The expression still of being sleep as if he never saw it coming. “The Young lord,” She yelled as an army of guards answered her cry. He went into thought again and said,” Mission Accomplished, Sir” “Good, return to the city and we will watch it begin,” A voice answered in his mind. He broke back out of thought. A strong cold wind rustled across the castle and he disappeared into the night. "It Begins" Spring 2009
