    banner ads gone bezerk...

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by erebh, Feb 5, 2014.

THe banner ad at the top of my page is vertical and takes up the top 5 posts - it actually makes the blue writing forums banner the whole size of my screen - any ideas?

Yep I am running into this as well. Unless it has just been fixed it doesn't seem to be happening all the time. Just refreshed and all is good...

Edit: Nope has not been fixed. Seems to happen intermittently. Sometimes the ad loads normally (horizontally) sometimes it loads vertically. @Daniel

I get this as well, but only when I'm accessing the site on a mobile device, such as my phone or my Kindle. I've never seen it happening when browsing via my pc, though.

Drives me crazy. Wanted to start a new thread about this, but I see it's a common problem. I switched for
Safari browser, but the add keeps popping up. Not only it takes half of the page, that's fine, I can handle, but it
also covers the actual content of the thread. Which it shouldn't. This way I can not even ignore the add properly...

Thanx for the tip to refresh the page. Will do.

This happened to me on six separate pages this morning. I get that the site owners need to experiment with ways of generating revenue, but this isn't the way to go. An ad that covers content and has no visible way to turn it off is an insult to the site's visitors. I won't be back if it continues.

Reckon Absolute Writer would love my poetry, I mean the banner ads are too big and you can't switch it off

Having this issue too - especially on the main page. I can't see any of the boards above "Research" because of it.

I think it's the horizontal banners are being bullied by the vertical - the straight-ups are taking over....

Oh, lord, it's happening to me, too. Renders the site useless. I'm surprised I was able to read the OP and first few comments on this thread.

(Guess this means I should get off and do some real work? ;) But I hope they get it fixed ASAP.)

I very much doubt it's an intentional ploy by the site administrator

Happened to me once, but I refreshed and everything was fine... Haven't run into it since. I remember Daniel saying that he had just started using a new banner system, and figured it was a bug.

You think he did it accidentally, then ? Again, I have no problem with the owner investigating advertising possibilities, but he needs to test them before implementation to make sure they don't have an adverse effect on his visitors.

Accidentally or there's a problem with the ad vendor. I doubt he would purposely place advertisements on top of site content.

Is the top banner still covering some of the content for people? I'm still having this problem on my PC and iphone. Refreshing doesn't always work.

If you could take a screenshot and let me know what browser this is with that'd help immensely.

Not entirely certain on this one, but you may still be having this issue because your resolution is too small.

This usually only occurs if you resize the window after the page has loaded. The banner ads should be responsive. However, it looks like if you have the window a few pixels off then this does happen.

Do you see this often? If you make your browser a few pixels larger or smaller this shouldn't be the case.

    Looking into fixing it now.

Ah, it looks like it's because it's from a different ad provider. I'll see if there's anything I can do.
