I'm worried this might be offensive to disabled people

    To quote a gay jew on the topic of offense, "Well, so fucking what?"

    On the topic of the narration, there's a style called over-the-shoulder, basically what's used in A Song of Ice and Fire and Pride and Prejudice, where the narrator speaks from the third person, however, they take up the opinions and knowledge of the character. This allows for things like bias, misremembering and an unreliable narrator.

    I don't see any problem with what you have written. If that is how he appears then that is how he appears. You have to remember that you cannot please everyone in life, and if they are hurt or upset by that quote then I'm sorry but its really tough luck. You weren't in any way intending for what you have written to be offensive, so people should remember that when they read your writing.
