    Atlantean Names

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by TheDarkWriter, Mar 8, 2016.

What names would be best suited for the people of Atlantis? I'm of using Greek names but not sure if that would be right.

Greek would work but you could do your own created names. Whatever one works.

Is Atlantis supposed to be in the Mediterranean sea according to the myth? If so, perhaps you could use names common to cultures and languages of the time period in Greece (e.g. in Crete), Italy, France, Spain, and Northern African countries?

Atlantis is often conflated with Crete, so you could try looking into Cretan names.

I thought it was beyond the gates of Hercules. Therefore not necessarily med culture at all. You could be a little different, and have them be an ancient scion of the north African peoples. Carthage, for example, could be a remnant of the Atlantean civilisation.

Robert E. Howard had some crazy names for his Atlanteans, King Kull for instance.

If you don't like his style, I would advise the same as those above. Greek or Carthaginian names would work quite well. Greek especially would be much easier to work with I think.
